Mineralological description
 Arsenic trioxide can be generated via many routine
processing of arsenic compounds including the oxidation
(combustion) of arsenic and arsenic-containing minerals in air

 Large scale applications include its use as a precursor to

forestry products, in colorless glass production, and in
electronics. Being the main compound of arsenic, the trioxide
is the precursor to elemental arsenic, arsenic alloys, and
arsenide semiconductors. Organoarsenic compounds, e.g.
feed additives (Roxarsone) and pharmaceuticals (
Neosalvarsan), are derived from arsenic trioxide
 Crystallisation-Hexagonal,
scalenoheadral
 Colour-tin white,tarnishes quickly to grey
 Lusture-submetallic on fresh surfaces
 Streak- white
 Diaphaneity – opaque
 Cleavaga –one direction,distinct
 Fracture- uneven
 Elasticity –brittle
 Hardness-3.5
 Sp.gravity-5.63
 Alteration-the black tarnish which results from
exposure is a mixture of arsenic & arsenolite.
 Occurrence & mineral association-In
hydrothermal veins.Associated minerals
include ores of silver,cobalt&
nickel,arsenolite ,realgar etc
