1. Orientation
Sets the scene : where and when the story happened and introduces the
participants of the story : who and what is involved in the story
2. Complication
Tells the beginning of the problems which leads to the crisis (climax) of the main
participants
3. Resolution
The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad (tragic)
ending
4. Re-orientation / Coda
This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It consists of a moral
lesson, advice or teaching from the writer
• Past tense, for example We went to the zoo; She was happy, ect.
• Time connectives and conjunctions, for example then, before that,
soon,ect
• Adverbs dan adverbial phrases here, in the mountain, happily ever after,
• Action verbs dalam past tense; stayed,climbed, dsb.
• Saying verbs ; said, told, promised, dan thinking verbs,thought, understood,
felt, ect.
• Adjectives -> noun phrase, long black hair, two red apples, ect.
• Nouns stepsisters, housework, ect.
The Smart Monkey And The Dull Crocodile
One day there was a monkey. He wanted to cross a river. There he saw a crocodile so
he asked the crocodile to take him across the other side of the river. The crocodile
agree and told the monkey to jump on its back. Then the crocodile swam down the river
with the monkey on his top.
Unluckily, the crocodile was very hungry, he stopped in the middle of the river and said
to the monkey, “My father is very sick. He has to eat the heart of the monkey. So he will
be healthy again.”
At the time, the monkey was in dangerous situation and he had to think hard. Then he
had a good idea. He told the crocodile to swim back to the river bank. “What’s for?”
asked the crocodile. “Because I don’t bring my heart,” said the monkey. “I left it under a
tree, near some coconuts in the river bank.”
The crocodile agreed and turned around. He swam back to the bank of the river. As
soon as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back. Then
he climbed up to the top of a tree.
“Where is your heart?” asked the crocodile. “You are foolish,” said the monkey to the
crocodile. “Now I am free and I have my heart.”
1. Orientation: The participants or characters of the story are a smart monkey and dull

2. Complication: Every narrative text must consist of conflict or problem. A simple
definition of problem is when something goes and it is not what we want. In the story the
complication start when the crocodile want to eats the monkey.
the crocodile was very hungry, he stopped in the middle of the river and said to the
monkey, “My father is very sick. He has to eat the heart of the monkey. Of course the
monkey don not want to be the crocodile’s meal and that is the problem which sets the
whole story.
3. Resolution: A problem must be resolved. It can succeed or fail. In this story, the
monkey succeeds to solve the problem. He get free from the hungry crocodile.
The crocodile agreed and turned around. He swam back to the bank of the river. As soon
as they reached the river bank, the monkey jumped off the crocodile’s back. Then he
climbed up to the top of a tree.
Snow White

Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her aunt
and uncle because her parents were dead.
One day she heard her uncle and aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the
castle because they both wanted to go to America and they didn’t have enough money to take
Snow White.
Snow White didn’t want her uncle and aunt to do that so she decided that it would be
best if she ran away. The next morning she ran away into the woods. She was very tired and
hungry. Then she saw a little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and
fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. There they found Snow
White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs.
The dwarfs said, “What is your name?”
Snow White said, “My name is Snow White.”
Then, Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story.
The dwarfs said, “If you want, you may live here with us.”
Snow White answered, “Oh, could I? Thank you.”
Finally, Snow White and the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after.
