Fermented Plant Juice

(Organic Fertilizer)
Our Goal
• To understand the
importance of organic
agriculture method of
cultivation
• To create awareness among
the students and farmers to
conserve soil
Our Mission:

How can we grow

enough food without
polluting our
environment ?
Comparative studies
Inorganic Method Organic Method

• Results in better yield in • Constant yield through out the

beginning but gradually yield years
decreases
• Deteriorates fertility of soil • Fertility of soil increases
• Destroys the microorganisms • Retains microorganisms
• Causes water pollution • No water pollution
• Harmful effects on farmers • No harmful effects on farmers
health health
• Difficult to control the weeds • Weeds can be controlled by
organic pesticides
•Maintenances cost in high • Less maintenance cost
Observations of Agriculture Officer
• Majority farmers use chemical fertilizers &
pesticides very often
• Fertility of soil decreased due to increase in
use of chemical fertilizers which resulted in
reduction in crop yields every year
• Soil pollution is very high leading top &
ground water pollution
• Farmer suffers from serious health hazards
like : Skin allergies, Respiratory deceases,
etc.,
• Few farmers meet experts for counseling on
best practices
• Though few farmers have undergone
training on agricultural practices, they
hardly implement
Steps in Making FPJ
• STEP 1
Combine the raw materials
(see Things You'll Need
below) in a 1:1:1 ratio.
Example: 1 kg. plant materials,
1 kg. molasses/brown sugar, 1
gallon (3.8 L) water. This can be
reduced, just remember the
ratio.
STEP 2

Place the materials in a

large water-proof container.
Mix the materials together until
the sugar is dissolved in water.
STEP 3

Cover the container with a

piece of cloth and secure
with a rubber band.
STEP 4

Place the container in a

quiet, cool and shaded
location (such as a garage).
Make sure the container won't
be disturbed.
STEP 5
Leave the container for
about a week. Do not disturb
or move it as much as
possible.
– A week later, you will
notice molds growing on
the surface. The liquid will
have a sweet-sour smell.
It may be disturbing but
its worth it. It is a sign
that beneficial bacteria
has inhabited the liquid.
STEP 6
Leave the container for
about a week. Do not disturb
or move it as much as
possible.
– A week later, you will
notice molds growing on
the surface. The liquid will
have a sweet-sour smell.
It may be disturbing but
its worth it. It is a sign
that beneficial bacteria
has inhabited the liquid.
STEP 7
Mix the liquid thoroughly with a
stick.
STEP 8
• Strain the liquid into a
large plastic bottle,
using a strainer. Leave
enough space for the
bacteria to breath. The
solid materials can be
placed into the compost
pile, if you have.
Otherwise, throw it in the
trash.
STEP 9
• Put the bottle cap loosely on to
allow air to enter.
STEP 10
• Place the bottle in a dark,
protected area such as a
garage.
STEP 11
• Application: Mix 1 cup of
the liquid to 1 gallon (3.8 L)
of chemical-free water. It is
best applied early in the
morning or late afternoon.
Use the diluted liquid to
water the plants at their
bases.
– For most plants, apply the
diluted FPJ at least once a
week.
Conclusion
With the increased and prolonged use of chemical
fertilizers the fertility of the soil reduces and thus the
rate of yield also reduces .
With the use of organic fertilizers the soil becomes
enriched with nutrients and the fertility of the soil
goes on increasing gradually thus yielding more
qualitative and quantitative yield.
The investment for fertilizers goes on increasing
with use of chemical fertilizers organic fertilizers while
the investment for fertilizers goes on decreasing with
use of organic fertilizers .
The use of organic fertilizer is eco-friendly whereas
the use of chemical fertilizers harms the natural
balance.

all!
