PRACTICAL

RESEARCH 2
Catherine C. Teofilo
Activity #1:
NAME THE
HYPOTHESES
Direction: With the following
research, write a possible hypotheses.
1. The effect of school
building design on
student achievement.
2. The level of disaster
preparedness among
secondary school
students.
3. The impact of using
harvester on the
quarterly income of the
farmers.
Activity #2:
RIGHT OR LEFT
Direction: BasedARROW
on the following examples of
research hypotheses, identify whether it is Null
Hypothesis (right arrow) or Alternative
Hypothesis (left arrow).
1. There is no relationship
between smoking and the
incidence of coronary artery
disease.
ALTERNATI
NULL

2. There is significant
relationship between the cases
of broken family and teenage
pregnancy.

3. There is significance
relationship in the effectiveness of
using Information Communication
Technology and teaching.

VIDEO CLIP
Answer the following questions after watching
the video.
1. What is hypotheses?
2. What is the difference between null and
alternative hypotheses?
3. What is the difference between directional
and non-directional hypotheses)
TEACHER
S NOTE
Null hypotheses (Ho)

It is also known as statistical hypotheses

and is used for statistical testing and
interpretation of statistical outcomes.
• It states the existence of no relationship
between the independent and dependent
variables.
Alternative (H1)

It states the existence of relationship

between the independent and dependent
variables.
Directional Hypotheses

 It specifies not only the existence, but also the expected

direction of the relationship between variables.
 It states the nature of the relationship between two or
more variables such as positive, negative, or no
relationship.
 To express the direction of relationship between
variables, the directional terms are used to state the
hypotheses such as positive, negative, less, more,
increased, decreased, greater, higher, lower, etc.
Non-directional Hypotheses

• It reflects the relationship between two or more

variables, but is does not specify the anticipated direction
and nature of relationship such as positive or negative.

• It indicates the existence of relationship between the

variables.
Activity #3:
LET’S ANALYZE
Direction: The following are examples of
research hypotheses. Analyze each whether
it is null or alternative hypothesis and
directional or non-directional hypothesis.
1.There is a positive
relationship between years or
nursing experience and job
satisfaction among nurses.
2. There is no relationship
between smoking and the
incidence of coronary artery
disease.
3. There is relationship
between years of nursing
experience and job satisfaction
among nurses.
4. There is relationship
between smoking and
incidence of lung cancer.
Activity #4:
D.I.Y.
Directions: Assess the hypothesis you’ve
created yesterday and categorized if it is
under the Null/ Alternative and
Directional/Non-Directional.
Activity #5:
THE FINALE
Direction: Finalize your own
Research Hypothesis.
Activity #6:
Q & A PORTION
Direction: Read and Answer
the following questions.
1. What is the difference between
null and alternative hypotheses?

2. What is the difference between

null and alternative hypotheses?
UNIT
TEST
Direction:
Answer the following essay
question.
What is the importance of
knowing whether your
research is null or alternative
and directional or non-
directional hypotheses?
ASSIGNMENT:
Research about Written
Review of Related Literature
and Conceptual Framework.
