MID TERM PBL PRESENTATION

ANALYZE THE DIFFERENT

PARAMETERS AND THEIR
TRENDS IN RESERVOIR BY
WATER DRIVE SOURCES.
Presented by :K17PG23
Presented to : Sir Faisal Memon
INTRODUCTION

• The reservoirs which are predominately driven by compressibility of aquifer.

• Effectiveness : replacement of aquifer
• Ability of aquifer : depends on size and permeability
Three cases
• artesian water drive.(Aquifer is connected with oil and surface)
• confined water drive.( compressibility of Aquifer)
• Reservoir performance of water drive.
• If oil production rate > water influx, rate of production will drop at higher level.
• If oil production rate < water influx, rate of production will remain constant.
PARAMETERS AND THERE TRENDS

• Reservoir Pressure: depends upon production rate

• GOR: It will remain low (depend upon pressure)
• Water production: (increases as OWC moves upward )
• Well behavior: producible till the water production increases than oil
• Oil recovery rate : ( Aquifer type)
• Oil recovery: 35%-80%
CASE STUDY : OIL IN PLACE

• Oil in place is usually determined by volumetric method or material balance method

Here we use MBE method to find OIP.
• OIP: The total oil content of an oil reservoir

• The MBE, when properly applied, can be used to:

• Estimate initial hydrocarbon volumes in place
• Predict future reservoir performance
• Predict ultimate hydrocarbon recovery under various types of primary driving
mechanisms

Volume of bulk oil zone = 100,000 ac-ft

Volume of bulk gas zone = 20,000 ac-ft
• Step 1. Assuming the same porosity and connate-water for the oil and gas zones, calculate m:
m=20,000/100,00=0.2
• Step 2. Calculate the cumulative gas-oil ratio Rp:
Rp=(6.6 x 10^9)/(6 x 10^6)=1320 scf/ STB
Step 3. Solve for the initial oil-in-place by applying Equation:

No Water and Gas Injection is observed in reservoir therefore,

HAVLENA AND ODEH METHOD FOR WATER
DRIVE RESERVOIR
• F = N Eo + We General equation of material balance for water drive reservoir
F = Net fluid production ,N = Oil in place ,Eo = oil expansion term ,We = water influx
Problem: A water drive reservoir having net fluid production of 15.03 with oil expansion of
0.1207ft3/stb and have water encroachment of 3MMscf find initial water in place using havlena
and odeh method?
Data
F=15.03bbls , Eo=0.1207 , We=33MMscf
(F/Eo)-We=N
(15.03/0.1207)-33=91.52MMscf
