GIVEN A TABLE
Domain is found by listing the x values (numbers).
Range is found by listing the y values (numbers).
Ex 1: Ex 2:
x y x 0 -1 -2 -3
1 -2 y 0 -3 -6 -9
2 4
3 10
4 16

Domain: {1, 2, 3, 5} Domain: {0, -1, -2, -3}

Range: {-2, 4, 10, 16} Range: {0, -3, -6, -9}
GIVEN A TABLE (YOU TRY)
Domain is found by listing the x values (numbers).
Range is found by listing the y values (numbers).
Ex 1: Ex 2:
x y x 0 -1 -2 -3
1 2 y 0 2 4 6
2 3
3 4
4 5

GIVEN A FUNCTION
Substitute what you have to find what you need.

Ex 1: Find the range of f(x) = 2x if the domain is {0, 1, 2}.

f(0) = 2(0) f(1) = 2(1) f(2) = 2(2)

f(0) = 0 f(1) = 2 f(2) = 4

So the range is {0, 2, 4}.

GIVEN A FUNCTION (YOU TRY)
Substitute what you have to find what you need.

Ex 1: Find the range of f(x) = -x+2 if the domain is {-1, 1, 3}.

f(-1) = - (-1)+2 f(1) = - (1)+2 f(3) = - (3)+2

f(-1) = 3 f(1) = 1 f(3) = -1

So the range is {3, 1, -1}.

GIVEN A GRAPH
Domain: start at the center and run your
finger to the left on the graph until
you can’t go any more. Write this x-
value down. Do the same to the right.
Ex: -5 ≤ x ≤ 4

Range: start at the center and run your

finger down the graph until you
can’t go any more. Write this y-value
down. Do the same going up.
Ex: -4 ≤ y ≤ 4
GIVEN A GRAPH (YOU TRY)
Domain: start at the center and run your
finger to the left on the graph until
you can’t go any more. Write this x-
value down. Do the same to the right.
Ex: _____ ≤ x ≤ _____
Range: start at the center and run your
finger down the graph until you
can’t go any more. Write this y-value
down. Do the same going up.
Ex: _____ ≤ y ≤ _____
