CALL TO WORSHIP

One: We come, for God

welcomes us here
into that home called grace:

All: where the naked are clothed

in robes of hope;
where the stranger is embraced
as the long-lost prodigal.
One: We come, for God reunites
us here,
sisters and brothers in that family
called love:

All: where the imprisoned model

justice,
where the sick are cradled in
God's peace.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

One: They are the promises

stretching back into the dim
recesses of time, yet as new as
this very moment. When we lose
our way,
God searches for us until we are
found. When we hurt others, God
brings healing to all. When we
sin, God forgives us. Let us hold
these promises close to our
hearts, as we confess those things
we try to hide.
All: We stock the food pantries,
but brush aside those
who hunger for friendship.
We give our hand-me-downs
away,
but overlook those whose hopes
have been stripped away.
We glad-hand those just like us,
but turn a deaf ear to
our neighbors who 'talk funny.'
Forgive us, Hope of the ages.
You persistently search for us in
the side streets of the world,
gathering us up and bringing us
home,
so we may be drenched in the
waters of your bottomless pool of
forgiveness, watched over by your
Child, Jesus Christ, our Lord and
Savior.
SILENCE IS KEPT
ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: God searches for the lost,

All: and finds us;
One: God invites the hungry to
the table,
All: and feeds us;
One: God sends Jesus,
All: and frees us from death's
prison;
One: God forgives all who sin,
All: and heals us with mercy and
grace.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
Please stand, all who are able.

HYMN

May we find richness in the

harvest of justice
Which Christ Jesus has ripened
for us.
Bread for the journey, bread for
the hungry,
All for the glory and praise of
God.
1. Gather with patience for those
who have nothing.
Leave them your riches, and you
will receive.
Make room for the poor ones,
make way for the stranger;
for I am the Lord, the Lord your
God.
2. For to have mercy on those
forgotten,
This is my true law, this is my
command:
Clothe the naked, be home for the
homeless,
Care for the prisoner, the sick and
the lost.
3. For to have little is to be in
abundance.
To give what remains, to give all
we have,
Is to walk with the poor ones, and
become the stranger,
One with the Lord, the Lord our
God.
May we find richness in the
harvest of justice
Which Christ Jesus has ripened
for us.
Bread for the journey, bread for
the hungry,
All for the glory and praise of God
A litany

One: Our God, you call us to be

Church:
All: empower us to create - across
cultural, age and class boundaries

a laboratory of peace,
testing out your vision
of community and love as we
struggle
live with our differences.
One: Our God, you call us to be
Church:
All: empower us to be a parable
of the Kingdom,
allowing the upside-down values
of your commonwealth
to nudge us away from the
acquisitive
and self-regarding attitudes of
our day.
One: Our God, you call us to be
Church:
All: empower us to be a sign
of contradiction among the
nations,
pointing to hope in the midst of
disillusion,
offering non-violent resistance
when evil threatens,
accepting loss of prestige or
wealth in the cause of justice.
One: Our God, you call us to be
Church:
All: empower us to be a place
of welcome and warmth,
where what is ignored
elsewhere may be heard and
honoured,
where sorrows may be shared
and stories told,
where hard questions may be
asked and new ideas greeted with
joy.
One: Our God, you call us to be
Church:
All: empower us to be
a community of praise,
cracking open the dry husks of
cynicism and despair,
being clowns and jesters for
Christ,
celebrating the mystery of faith in
stillness and song.

1. Come! Live in the light!

Shine with the joy and the love of
the Lord!
We are called to be light for the
kingdom,
to live in the freedom of the city
of God!
We are called to act with justice,
we are called to love tenderly,
we are called to serve one
another,
to walk humbly with God!
2. Come! Open your heart!
Show your mercy to all those in
fear!
We are called to be hope for the
hopeless
so all hatred and blindness will be
no more!
We are called to act with justice,
we are called to love tenderly,
we are called to serve one
another,
to walk humbly with God!
3. Sing! Sing a new song!
Sing of that great day when all
will be one!
God will reign, and we’ll walk
with each other
as sisters and brothers united in
love!
We are called to act with justice,
we are called to love tenderly,
we are called to serve one
another,
to walk humbly with God!
