DIVERSITY

Major forms of workplace diversity


1. Demographic Characteristics
Organization comprises to many races, age and gender. Then it
has to make diversity management a central component of their
politics & practices
2. Levels of Diversity
 Surface-level diversity - stereotyping
 Deep level diversity – shared values and personality

DISCRIMINATION

 Discrimination is to note a difference between things using


our behavior to be influence by stereotypes abut groups of
people
• Stereotyping – judging someone on the basis of our perception of the
group to which that person belongs  stereotype threat
• Discrimination in the workplace
 Recognizing diversity opportunity can lead to an effective
diversity management for a better organization.

Surface–level Characteristics

 Biographical Characteristics – personal characteristics that are


objective and easily obtained from personnel records, represented on
surface-level diversity.

sensitive to the needs and difference of others.
 Attracting, Selecting, Developing and Retaining Diverse
Employees – through advertisement in publications or
partnership with institutions
 Diversity in Groups – to achieve superior performance and to
emphasize similarities among members

 Ability - an individual's capacity to perform various tasks


in a job
 Intellectual Abilities – thinking, reasoning, problem solving
 Physical Abilities – tasks required stamina, agility, strength,
and similar characteristics

Dimensions of Intellectual Ability

1. Number aptitude
 Ability to do speed and accurate arithmetic
2. Verbal comprehension
 Ability to understand what is read/heard and the relationship of words to each other
3. Perceptual speed
 Ability to identify visual similarities & differences quickly & accurately
4. Inductive reasoning
 Ability to identify a logical sequence in a problem & then solve the problem
