Future Tenses
Future Simple (Indefinite) Tense
decision is made at the moment of speaking:
-'I'm cold'.
- 'I'll close the window'.

Prediction based on opinion:


I think the Conservatives will win the next election.
Future Simple
is used for:
A future fact:
The sun will rise at 7am.

Promises / requests / refusal / willingness:


I'll help you with your homework.
I will give up smoking!

With offers which are questions we use Shall with I and We


Shall I drive you to the airport?
Be going to is used for:

Future plans made before the moment of speaking:


- 'We've run out of milk.‘
- 'I know, I'm going to buy some.'

Prediction based on present evidence:


Look at those boys playing football! They're going to break the window.
What's the difference? 'Will' and 'be going to‘
Will + infinitive Be going to + infinitive
A decision at the moment of speaking: A decision before the moment of speaking:

Future Continuous (Progressive) Tense

A continuous action in the future which is


interrupted by a time or by another action:
I’ll be waiting when you arrive.
Future At eight o'clock, I’ll be eating dinner.

used for:

Future Perfect /Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Future Perfect Tense


With a future time word, (and often with 'by') to talk
is used :
about an action that will finish before a certain time in
the future, but we don't know exactly when:
By 10 o'clock I will have finished my homework. 
By the time I'm sixty, I will have retired. 

Future Perfect Continuous


With a time word, to talk about an action which starts
is used
before a time in the future and continues up to that
time:
In April 2025, I will have been teaching here for two
years.  
Use Future Perfect or Future Perfect Continuous
Will have done/Will have been doing
