MV SWITCHGEAR OPERATION

PROCEDURE AND INTERLOCK CONDITION

UNIT 4
INTRODUCTION

It is important when operating on Medium Voltage

equipment that we follow the safety rules and operating

regulations in order to be safe.

This paper covers general safe operations on Medium

Voltage equipment and looks at the aspects of Switching,

Isolating, Testing and Earthing, as well as various types

of Medium Voltage testers and their usage.

Instructions for Putting the MV (RM6) into Operation
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC
FLASH

 Check that all connection bushings are fitted with connectors or

with insulating caps.
 Check that nothing has been left in the connection compartment.
 Check that the fuses have been properly fitted.
 Check that the RM6 is correctly connected to earth.
Operating Test before Energizing
Energizing the Incoming MV Cables
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH

 Before energizing the cables, the

switch must be in open position.

 Before energizing the cables, the

earthing switch must be in open
position.

 Failure to follow these instructions

will result in death or serious injury.
Fitting HV Fuses
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC
FLASH

1- Before performing these operations, close the earthing switch.

2- Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or
serious injury.
3- To remove the cover, remove the 2
screws on each side of the cover then lift
it and pull it towards you. The instructions
are visible on the cover.
4- Repeat the operations below for all 3
fuses.
5- Release the plug and push the extraction handle
manually to release the plug (tap with the palm of your
hand to detach the plug seal if necessary).
