pain arthritis, muscle spasms and
dry cracked skin in the hand.

adjustable upholstered seat fitted
over a metal or chrome.

especially designed for giving
manicure. Usually laminated
plastic surface and a drawer for
storing materials.
How to apply Nail Polish
1. Choose a nail polish in the color of your
choices
2. Prepare the following materials
3. Remove all traces of old nail polish
remover.
4. Rub the bottle between your hands to
warm the nail polish for about 25 to 30
seconds.
5. Open and scrape some of the excess
polish off on the side of the bottle.
6. Apply one stripe of color in the middle or
your thumb or pinkie nail. Then, paint a
stripe on the left, continuing to the right.
7. Add another coat of color if desired,
depending on the shape of color you want.
8. Apply last coat of clear polish to keep the
color lasting for at least one more week.

Half Moon –This is where a half-moon
shape, the lunula, at the base of the nail is
unpolished.

Slim line or Free walls – This is where you
leave a slight margin on each side of the nail
plate. It makes wide nails appear narrower.

Hairline Tip – this is where the nail polish is
applied to the whole nail and a section at the
top is removed with polish remover.

Free edge – this is where the free edge of
the nail is left unpolished.

Bruised Nails
• This is a condition in
which a clot of blood
forms under the nail
plate caused by
injury to the nail bed.
Discolored Nail
• This is a condition in which the nails
turn a variety of color including yellow,
blue, blue-grey, green, red and purple.
• It is caused by poor blood circulation,
heart condition or topical or oral
medication.

Hangnail
• This is a small strip of skin
that separates from the
cuticle. It is caused by dry
cuticles or cuticles that have
been cut too close to the
nail.
• Hangnails is also called
AGNAIL
Leukonychia
• This is a condition where
there are white areas under
the nail. This can be due to
the number of disease
processes, including
onychomycosis and most
common cause is injury to
the nail’s based.
Onychatrophia
• This is a condition
where a fully grown nail
shrinks in size and fall
away.
• It can be caused due to
damage of the nail
matrix or due to the
injury.
Onychauxis/Hypertrophy
• This refer to the
thickening of the
nails.
• Its treatment is to
trim to bring the
nails down to size.
Onychocryptosis
• This condition is caused by
the toenail growing into the
sides of tissue around the
nail.
• It occurs commonly in big
toes, usually caused by
pressure from ill-fitting
shoes.
Eggshell Nail
• This is a condition where the nails
become thin, white and curved over
the free edge.
• Caused by internal diseases,
improper diet, medication or nervous
disorder
Onychorrhexis
• This is a split or
brittle nails caused
by injury to the
finger or exposure
to harsh chemicals.
Onychophagy
• This is a medical
term for nails that
have been bitten
enough to become
deformed.
Pterygium
• This is a common
condition of a forward
growth of the cuticle
on the nail.
• If not treated they
grow over the nail to
the free edge.
Furrows
• These re long ridges that
run either lengthwise or
across the nail.
• These ridges increase with
age and can be caused by
psoriasis, poor circulation
and frostbite.
Nevus
• This is a brown or
black stain on the
nail caused by a
pigmented mole
that occurs in the
nail.
Paronychia
• This is an infection of the
nail fold caused by a
bacteria, fungi and some
viruses.
• Pain, redness and
inflammation will be
present in the nail folds
