FAVORITE SPORTS
HISTORY OF BADMINTON
• The original name of badminton was call BATTLEDORE AND SHUTTLECOCK and you can find
similar games in ancient Greece and Egypt. It used to be a game that could have multiple
players involve, and each of them will hit a shuttle cock with fealthers with rackets.

• The game was played in india during the 18th cencury, at which time it was called POONA in
the 1860, adopted by british army officer stationed in india the officers took the game back
to England , where it became a success at a party given by the duke of beaufort in 1873 at
his estate called BADMINTON in GLOUCESTERSHIR.

• A varlation of badminton whice has been developed only recently speed badminton or
speedminton , is played without a net , and Is gaining popularity specialy in Germany.
COURT DIMENSION/VENUE
• the dimension of a badminton court are 20 ft x 44 ft 6.1 m x 13.4 m , an
area of 880 ft 81 . 75 m the diagonal length of the full court is 48.30 ft
14.72 m .

• Both single and doubles are played on the same standard court. The
difference is that badminton sinle is played without the side or doubles alleys
that extend 1 ft 6 in 0. 46 m on either side of the court.

• As such , as the boundaries of the single court is played on 17 ft x 44 ft 5.18


m x 13.4m court space , an area of 748 ft 69.49m . Each of the lines drawn
on a standard badminton court have a thickness of 1.57 in 40 mm .
EQUIMENT AND GEAR
• RACKET - the badminton racket is one of the most important tools
played has in the game.

• SHUTTLE COCK – the badminton shuttle cock , also refered to as a


shuttle or birdie , acts similarly to a ball in other racket sports.

• NET – a mesh net divides the badminton court into two sides.
TECHNICAL SKILLS IN
BADMINTON
• 1. THE READY STANCE – it is a position in badminton where in the right
stance is readied by the played in order to minimize the amount of
movement that would be needed in order to hit the shuttlecock.

• 2. FOREHAND AND BACKHAND GRIP - these are two basic grips that
new players must familiarize themselves with. By doing either of these ,
it would be much easier for players to control their shots.

• 3. FOOT WORK - it is a necessary skill in order to play badminton. A


proper footwork would help in mastering the sports.
• 4.STROKES – initially , there are four strokes that the player can use.

• 5. UNDER ARM BACKHAND SERVE - it is a tye of serve that beginners can use .

TACTICAL SKILL IN BADMINTON


- applying pressure on hitting the shuttlecock.
- position yourself in the central base.
- it would be easier to hit the shuttlecock on the corners of the court.
- deceive your opponents during singles match.
10 RULES OF THE GAME
BADMINTON
1. A game starts with a coin toss. Whoever wins the toss gets to decide whether they would they
would serve or reciece first or what side of the court they want to be on . The side on using losing
the toss shall then exercise the remaining choice.
2. at no time during the game should the played touch the net , with his racket of his body.
3. the shuttle cock should not be carried on or cone to rest on the racket.

6. during the serve , a player should not touch any of the lines of the court , until the server striker the
shuttle cock should always be hit from below the waist.
7. A point is added to a players score as and where he wins a rally.
8. A player win a rally when he strikes the shuttle cock and it touches the floor of the opponets side of
the court or when the opponent commits a fault . Themost common type of fault is when a player
fails to hit the shuttle cock over the net or it lands outside the boundaryof the court.
9. Each side can strikes the shuttle only once before it passes over the net . Once hit a player can strike
the shuttlecock in a new movement or shot.
10. the shuttlecock hitting the ceiling , is counted as a fault.
OFFICIATING IN BADMINTON
the officials are judges responsible to ensure a fair badminton game is being played . They consist of.

UNPIRE - the main judge for the particular badminton game he/she has the power to overrule any
desition made by the servise judge or line judges. The umpire is the person unsuring that the badminton
game is run smoothly and person and prevent any playerers from delaying the game play.
whenever a player requests to change the shuttle the umpire will need to approve that the change
could be made.

SERVICE JUDGE- the service is responsible in making a service fault call and provide shuttle to the lpayers.

LINE JUDGES – line judge sit beside the badminton court RIGHT IN FROM OF EVERY IN /OUT LINES to
determine wether the shutte is inside and outside the boundaries of the court.
