British history

• Became Island at the end of last ice age about 8,000


years ago.
• Descendent of first homo sapiens arrival in Europe at
30000 to 40000 years ago.
Introduction of farming(5000BC-4500BC)

• Took 2000 Years to


spread across the
island.
• Stopped moving
around the country
and settled down
Early settlements (3800 BC)
AND
Stone henge( 3000 BC)
• Monuments where people
would gather.
• Henges built according to
the position of sun.

• Circular arrangement of
standing stones.
• Believed to be a place of
worship.
BRONZE AGE (2500BC) AND LATE BRONZE AGE (1250BC TO 800BC)
AND
IRON AGE( 800 BC)

• Lived in settlements consisting of


round houses.
• Constructed first Hill Forts.

• Celts came from Central Europe.


• Worked with iron and used new
farming techniques.
• Druids(Celtic Priests)kept their gods
happy by sacrificing or offering
valuable things.
End of Celtic age(450BC)

• Druids were suppressed by Romans.


• By 2000BC Roman influence began in Western
Europe and Britain.
Roman's attempt at Invasion.
• Led by Julius Caesar,
Roman Army attacks Britain
(55 BC).

• Julius Caesar wins several


battles.

• Promised tribute was not


paid to Celtis.

• Rome could not conquer


Scotland.
Change to Britain Island.
• Building of roads and bridges.

• Built Hadrian's Wall.

• London became Capital city.

technology was introduced.

Arrival of Anglo-Saxons (5th -11th century)
• Became majority in population in Britain.

• Dominated customs, language, religion.

• Angles (England)is titled as countries name.

• Destroyed Roman towns.

• No trade or business.

• Monarchy began.

• Introduction of private property.
