OVERVIEW OF THE BJMP
Republic Act No. 6975, otherwise known as the
“Department of Interior and Local Government Act of
1990”, provided that the task of jail management and
penology shall be the responsibility of the Bureau of Jail
Management and Penology (BJMP). Based on this
mandate, the BJMP defined its vision, mission, powers,
functions, values, objectives and principles as an
institution, in a consultative and participatory strategic
planning session. Subsequently, RA 9263, also known as
the Bureau of Fire Protection and BJMP
Professionalization Act of 2004”, and its Implementing
Rules and Regulations strengthened the provisions of RA
6975, redefined many of the BJMP’s existing policies and
restructured the Bureau’s organization.
MISSION AND VISION

MISSION
To provide humane safekeeping and developmental
opportunities for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) in the
promotion of public safety.

VISION
By 2040, a world-class agency highly capable of providing
humane safekeeping and developmental opportunities for
Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
MANDATE

MANDATE:

BJMP is mandated to direct, supervise and control


the administration and operation of all district, city
and municipal jails nationwide with pronged tasks of
safekeeping and development.
FUNCTIONS

In line with it's mission, the Jail Bureau endeavors to


perform the following functions:
>
Formulate policies and guidelines in the administration
of all district, city, and municipal jails nationwide;
>
Implement strong security measures for the control of
inmates;
>
Provide for the basic needs of inmates;
>
Conduct activities for the development of inmates;
>
Improve jail facilities; and,
>
Promote the general welfare and development of
personnel.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO JAIL
OFFICER 1
Must not have been dishonorably discharged of dismissal for cause from
previous employment;
 
Must not have been convicted by final judgment of an offense or crime
involving moral turpitude;
 
Must not be less than twenty-one (21) nor more than thirty (30) years of
age. Provided, that a waiver for age requirement shall be automatically
granted to applicants belonging to the cultural communities;
 
Must be at least 5’2” (1.57 cm) in height for male, and 5’0” (1.52m) for
female: provided that a waiver for height requirement shall be granted
to applicants belonging to the cultural communities; and
 
Must weigh not more or less than five kilograms (5kgs) from the
standard weight corresponding to his/her height, age and sex.

Original College Diploma

Birth Certificate issued by NSO

Original Certificate of Eligibility or Board Rating (Civil Service Professional, RA 1080,  Penology Officer
& PD 907)

Valid Clearances (i.e. NBI, Police, Barangay, MTC, RTC & Prosecutor's Ofc)

Valid Community Tax Certificate

Certificate/s of Previous & Present Employment

Certificate/s of Seminars/Trainings Completed

Marriage Certificate issued by NSO (if married)
