DEFINITION OF TOURISM

 The
word Tourism is derived from the Hebrew word “torah” which
means studying, learning and searching.

 Tourism is the act and process of spending time away from home in
pursuit of recreation, relaxation, and pleasure, while making use of the
commercial provision of services.
DEFINITION OF HOSPITALITY

 The term is derived from the latin word “hospitare” which means “to
receive a guest”.

 Hospitality It implies whereby a guest who is away from home is


welcomed by a host where basic necessities are provided such as food,
beverages, and lodging.

COMPONENTS OF TOURISM

The 4 Main Components of Tourism are:

1. Accessibility
2. Accommodation
3. Attraction
4. Amenities
ACCESSIBILITY

 The way by which tourist can reach the destination easily.


 A mode of transportation is necessary in order to get the tourists be able to
travel in different destinations.
 Transportationis very crucial and if tourist destination are located at place
where no transport can reach they become little value.
 For Accessibility the following provisions should be there as:
ACCESSIBILITY OF AIR TRANSPORT

Air transport is one of the fastest modes of public transport which


connects international or far domestic boundaries. Air transport allows people
from different location to cross international and travel other countries for
personal, business, medical, and tourism purposes.
ACCESSIBILITY OF ROAD/RAIL TRANSPORT

Road/Rail transport is much more in domestic tourism, and in


developed countries; Automobiles, particularly private cars, bus, and
railways are used frequently for leisure tourism. Domestic tourism is
dominated by road transportation in most countries.
ACCESSIBILITY OF MARINE
TRANSPORT
Marine transport plays a huge part of tourism and travel. Otherwise
known as Maritime, Fluvial, Waterborne Transport, it refers to the
transportation of people or cargo via waterways. It is also the most cost-
effective method of moving large, perishable, and heavy products across long
distances.
ACCOMMODATION

 Itis a place where tourist can stay, relax and unwind from travelling in
such destinations.
 Something supplied for convenience or to satisfy a need of a person or
tourists such as. : Lodging, Food, and Services.
 Common Types of Accommodations are Hotels, Motels, Hostels, Bed &
Breakfast, Boutique Hotels.
HOTEL

 Hotels are the most common type of


accommodation and easily accessible.
Hotels are available in varieties of options
from non- star to 5 star. The rates of the
hotels per day per night depend on the
facilities and amenities offered.
 Itis usually located in city centers or near
airports which has plenty number of
different rooms.
MOTEL

 A Motel is an accommodation designed


primarily for Motorists which is located on
major highways that offers parking and hotel
services for long-distance travellers. It offer
short-term accommodation to travellers,
hence fewer services.
HOSTEL

 A Hostel is a form of low-cost, short-term


shared sociable lodging where guests can
rent a bed, usually a bunk-bed in a
dormitory, with shared use of a lounge
restrooms and kitchen.
BED & BREAKFAST

 A Bed and Breakfast, often abbreviated as


B&B, is an accomodation that offers
lodging as well as morning meal. They
traditionally take the form of a large family
home with a limited number of rooms.
BOUTIQUE LODGE

 A Boutique Lodge is a smaller, upscale,


luxury hotel that offers a distinct personality,
intimate experience, and personalized
services. They tend to be located in trendy
neighborhoods in large cities, that offers
luxury amenities, and unique, modern design
throughout the lodging and individual rooms.
ATTRACTIONS

 Attraction means anything that creates a desire in any person to travel


in a specific tourist destination or attraction.
 It is a place of interest where tourists visit, typically for its inherent or
exhibited cultural value, historical significance, natural or built beauty,
or amusement opportunities.
 It is considered as the most important basic component of tourism that
has 4 different types. Man-made, Natural, Events and Cultural
Attractions.
MAN-MADE ATTRACTIONS

 Purpose built attractions or what we called


“Man-made Attractions” are built
purposely to attract tourists into that area.
Tourist attractions make people
automatically think about purpose built
attractions as they are fun, enjoyable and
designed for many different reasons.
NATURAL ATTRACTIONS

 Itis an attraction that has been created by


nature. Many of these areas have been given
a status to protect their environment and
provide facilities so that people who visit
are able to enjoy the sites.
EVENT ATTRACTIONS

 Event attraction is the one in which


tourists are attracted to the destination
simply because of what is taking place
there. These are well-planned or organized
activities held on a certain destination.
CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS

 Cultural Attractions includes architectural


and archaeological treasures, culinary
activities, festivals or events, historic or
heritage sites, monuments and landmarks,
museums and exhibitions, national parks
and wildlife sanctuaries, religious venues,
temples and churches.
AMENITIES

 It refers to providing cozy and comfortable facilities to the visitor or


traveler throughout the tourism, such as drinking water, food, and sanity.
 It also includes all necessary services and facilitites to make guest feel
comfortable in travel like rest, food, sports, entertainment,
communication and sightseeing sceneries.
For example; a Seaside Resort provide facilities for swimming,
boating, recreational areas such as Restaurants, Bars, & Spa’s.
