1. LAND USE SURVEY

Scale of Map generally – 1:2500 or 1:1250 or 1:10000.

Work caried out by people working in groups of two or three persons.

Survey info need to be observed and recorded by them.

A complete use survey should denote the use of every building and
every parcel of land within the survey area.

Standard colour schemes are available to present Landuse Map.

Generally we follow British notations for land use map.

How to do land use survey :

The total land to be surveyed can first be divided into developed and
undeveloped area.

Developed one :
within the municipal limit
which has urban character – public or private
use like -residential, commercial, industrial, public and semi
public, parks/open spaces, area used for transportation etc.

Undeveloped one :
within the formal municipal limit
used for agriculture purpose
green field

VERY DIFFICULT SUBJECT…. NO COMPLETELY ADEQUATE
TECHNIQUES HAS YET EMERGED.

RESIDENTIAL DENSITY

FREEDOM FROM CONGESTION WITHIN THE HOUSE.

CONTROL OF TOTAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIVING IN A GIVEN AREA

TO A THIRTY-ROOM MANSION…..BCZ NUMBER OF PEOPLE ACCOMMODATE IN
BOTH WILL BE DIFFERENT.

THEN COMES HABITABLE ROOMS PER ACRE (ACCOMMODATION DENSITY)


AND NUMBER OF PERSONS PER ACRE (POPULATION DENSITY)

HOW TO DO……HABITABLE ROOMS PER ACRE (ACCOMMODATION DENSITY)

FIRST OBTAIN A 1:2500 MAPS OF WHOLE BUILT UP AREA


THEN NON-RESIDENTIAL AND RESIDENTIAL AREA SHOULD BE BLOCKED OUT
THE SIMILAR TYPE OF AREA NEED TO BE DIVIDE IN RESIDENTIAL AREA
THE NEXT STEP IS COUNT THE NUMBER OF HABITABLE ROOMS IN EACH SUB-
DIVISION.

THE DIVIDE IT…. YOU WILL GET ACCOMODATION DENSITY.

SOME DIFFICULTY MAY COME IN DECIDING WHAT CAN AND WHAT CANNOT
REASONABLY BE REGARDED AS A HABITABLE ROOM.

AFTER DOING THE ACCOMMODATIO DENSITY USE THOSE SUB-DIVISION
THEN DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN EACH BLOCK

THEN SIMPLE DIVISION OF ESTIMATED TOTAL POPULATION OF EACH AREA BY ITS


ACREAGE GIVES YOU POPULATION DENSITY IN PERSON PER ACRE.

OCCUPANCY RATES = POPULATION DENSITY / ACCOMMODATION DENSITY.

UPTO – 50 PERSONS PER ACRE OR UPTO – 20 ROOMS/ACRE
51– 100 PERSONS PER ACRE OR 21 – 40 ROOMS/ACRE
