    After this lesson, you will be able to:
    • identify the issues / concerns of
    teenagers and the need for support
    and understanding of the family.
    Adolescents (n.)
    People ages 10-19 years old.
    They are known to be bothered by issues
    and concerns at their age.
    • Identity Crisis
    The feeling of not being sure about one's
    self and what purpose one has in life.
    2. Double Standards of Morality
    The neglect of gender equality due to the
    culture instilled within our values.
    The following are examples of double
    standards of morality in the country:
    • Boys and men are permitted to stay out
    more and up to a later time compared
    to girls and women.

    2. A philandering male is considered
    demonstrating his manliness while a
    philandering female is judged by our
    society as cheap or bad.
    3. Women are socially judged and legally
    penalized for adultery and for having
    children out of wedlock.

    4. Men who stay at home to do household
    chores instead of having jobs to earn
    money for the family are labelled as "under
    the saya."
    2. Sexual Identity
    It refers to the concept developed by
    adolescents regarding to who they are
    romantically or sexually attracted to.
    3. Sexual Orientation
    The enactment of one's sexual identity.
    Sexual orientation must be guided by one's
    family to ensure healthy sexuality.
    4. Teenage Pregnancy
    Adolescents with sexual orientation and no
    guidance from the family may lead to
    teenage pregnancy due to premarital sex.

    Teenage pregnancy brings danger to both


    the mother and the child because of the
    prolonged labor that delays the delivery of
    the baby.
    4. Teenage Pregnancy
    Self-induced abortion may occur if the
    teenager has no support from the family
    and the partner. It may cause serious
    infection to the mother leading to
    complications such as sterility, and even
    worse, death.
    5. Lack of Self-Love
    As a teenager, we must learn how to love
    ourselves first before engaging in a
    romantic relationship. Learning how to
    love ourselves sets standards on how we
    should be loved and treated by others.
