• Early Filipinos worshipped and believed
that plants and inanimate objects are home to an ancestral spirit. ATTIRE, TEXTILES AND TAPESTRIES I. BILAAN OR B’LAAN • an ethnolinguistic group that inhabit some parts in South Cotabato, North Cotabato and Davao del Sur.
• B’laan is a combination of two words, “bila”

• Ikat - a process of dyeing the fabric where
the yarns are tightly wrapped with the strings and dyed before weaving ATTIRE, TEXTILES AND TAPESTRIES II. BAGOBOS • the group of people that live in Davao • comes from the words “bago” means new and “obo” means growth
• T’nalak - special textile woven from

T’BOLI • live in and around Lake Sebu, South Cotabato are famous for their complicated beadwork, wonderful woven fabrics, and beautiful brass ornaments • believe that their gods and ancestors visit them in their dreams to teach them the designs and patterns that they have to weave ATTIRE, TEXTILES AND TAPESTRIES IV. MARANAO • means “People of the Lake” referring to the people who occupy the lands surrounding Lake Lanao Maranao • are known for their Malong ATTIRE, TEXTILES AND TAPESTRIES V. YAKANS • They live in Basilan • They are popular for their skills in weaving
• Seputangan - square cloth used by the Yakan
women as a head cover or as a belt • Badjulapi - a tight blouse with longsleeves ornamented with gold, silver, or bronze buttons • Sawal - a tradional tight fitting trousers made of yakan fabric characterized by its vertical stripes • Pinalantupan- a type of skirt, is layered over the trousers. RED GENOTIVA NORMAN “NONOY” NARCISCO GESTER GUMANAO OANI Jester Gumanao Oani(b. 1995) is from Lunga-ogSto. Tomas, Davao Del Norte. The 8th of nine siblings, hisfather was a skilled carpenter and his mother, like some ofhis female siblings, is a seamstress. Thus, he witnessed hisfamily working with fabric, metal, wood, and industrialmaterials. This kind of relationship with the materials ofindustry informs Jester’s praxis as an artist.
