Game Day Appetizer

When I think of watching football, I think of two things: Buffalo wings and dip. It’s possible I’ve agreed to attend (or host) game day parties purely for an excuse to eat spicy chicken wings or cheesy dip.

This Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe brings those two game day favorites together! Every bite is creamy and cheesy with just the right kick of heat.

You don’t need to wait for football season to give this a try, either. It’s a perfect appetizer or party snack for any occasion–and incredibly easy to make.

Dump everything in the slow cooker and your Buffalo Chicken Dip is ready to eat in about 90 minutes.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make slow cooker buffalo wing dip.

Cooked chicken breasts. This is a perfect use for leftover chicken. Or pick up a ready-to-eat rotisserie chicken at the grocery story. Truth be told I have even used leftover turkey too from the holidays.

Wing sauce. I use Frank’s Red Hot Wing Sauce for an authentic Buffalo flavor.

Sour cream. Swap the sour cream and ranch seasoning packet for ranch dressing if you prefer.

Cheese. You’ll want both shredded cheese (mexican blend or cheddar) as well as cream cheese. Makes the perfect, creamy dip.

Easy Instructions

White slow cooker with shredded chicken, wing sauce, and cheeses.

Cook your chicken breasts before making the dip. (Skip this step if you’re using a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken.)

Add chicken breasts to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours until the chicken is cooked through.

Remove the cooked chicken and shred it with a fork.

Add the shredded chicken back to the slow cooker along with the other dip ingredients. Cover and cook on HIGH heat for 90 minutes.

Stir the dip occasionally as it cooks to incorporate the ingredients. Garnish with green onions and serve warm.

PRO TIP: Turn your slow cooker to the “warm” function to keep this dip melted and smooth for hours.

Tips and Tricks

  • For Buffalo Chicken Dip with a stronger ranch flavor, add an extra tablespoon of ranch seasoning.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, homemade bagel chips, or vegetables for dipping. Celery is perfect for scooping up this dip!
  • Serve straight out of the slow cooker on the “keep warm” setting, or transfer to a serving bowl. If ingredients start to separate as it cools, give it a stir to reincorporate everything.
  • Easy double the recipe by doubling the ingredients!
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat and enjoy within 3 days.
  • Use leftovers to make buffalo chicken sandwiches. Or make a batch of buffalo chicken tacos!

  1. Is this super hot? I don’t mind spice, but my husband is a baby when it comes to anything spicy (a lil tingle on his tongue and he’s running for a drink! haha!)
