Lewis Hamilton: "Misunderstanding" Which Led To The Champion's Rejection From Wimbledon

A misunderstanding caused Lewis Hamilton to miss the Federer vs Djokovic finals. He never visited a Wimbledon match again.

Though the event dates back to the year 2015, it still caused quite a stir. We all know Lewis Hamilton's choice of fashion is unique and different from the rest, bold enough to make a statement for the British racing driver.

However, at the Wimbledon Centre Court, Hamilton was denied entry to the finals after seeing what he wore, despite the Mercedes star being invited to watch a blockbuster match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Hamilton was to witness the match from the Royal Box which required him to follow strict dressing protocols. For men, the dress code was a formal jacket, ties, and shoes. Hamilton however turned up at the event wearing a bright floral shirt. As expected, it didn't go quite well with the officials at the venue.

Eventually, a Wimbledon spokesperson couldn't comment directly on the reason for Hamilton's non-entry but he did say this:

“If he was not adequately dressed, you could infer that he would not have been let in, but we do not comment on our guests. If he came without a jacket, tie, or shoes, he would have had two choices – not staying, or going to get some extra stuff.”

Hamilton never commented on the incident. However, his spokesperson said:

“Due to a misunderstanding over dress code, he is disappointed to have missed the final.”

Other guests who were invited alongside Hamilton included Hollywood stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Winslet, Bradley Cooper, and Hugh Grant. Among all, Hamilton was the only icon to have not complied with the dress code.

Since then, several F1 drivers like Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc have attended matches at Wimbledon but Hamilton never returned after he was denied entry in 2015.
