Jake Browning Confident He Can Start in NFL After 'Bittersweet' Season Finale Against Browns
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Jake Browning called the 31-14 win over Cleveland bittersweet on Sunday afternoon as he wraps up his first stint as an NFL starter.
Browning had plenty of ups and a few downs across the final stretch of the season with Joe Burrow injured.
"You're glad you won and didn't play bad, but there's like, 'Man, we're so close to the playoffs.' And yeah, it's like a weird, bittersweet feeling where you won. And it was good to go out strong with every team it's going to be different every year, and that's just part of the business side of it," Browning said. "But man, we're so close to the playoffs and it just sucks that we are going home."
Browning proved he belongs in the NFL over the past couple of months as Cincinnati controls his contract entering the 2024 season.
"I think as we get further away from the season, I'll remember the good hopefully, but I think I'm kind of wired to remember some losses that could have played better," Browning said about his full body of work. "But I think I've established that I'm capable of being a starter in the NFL. It's a weird situation where I feel like I'm one of the top 32 quarterbacks in the world and I just so happen to be on the roster with a guy that's proven that he's a top-five quarterback in the world. What that looks like going forward? I have no idea, nor do I have any control, so I'm not going to think about it a ton."
