The baby boy who suffered serious burns after a horrendous scalding attack is “up and about” after a random stranger doused him in boiling hot coffee last week.

In an update on the fundraiser page for Luka, the baby boy’s mother thanked all donators for their kindness and generosity during “such a difficult and traumatic time”.

Luka was spending Tuesday with his mum for a picnic with friends at Hanlon Park, in Brisbane, when a man approached the group and allegedly poured a hot coffee on the infant.

Since the scalding attack on Tuesday last week, Luka has undergone two bouts of surgery to treat his severe burns.

In the update, Luka’s mother said her family was “blown away” by the support, as the fundraising goal of $5,000 was smashed 30 times over, with the current balance on their GoFundMe page exceeding $111,000.

“Luka is due to have his 3rd surgery on Tuesday where we will hopefully have more information on the next steps,” the statement said.

“Luka has been incredibly resilient. He's up and about, walking and causing chaos. He is such a strong little boy and we are so so proud of him.”

Immediately after the attack, Luka was treated by one of his mother's friends, before an off-duty nurse living nearby took the baby to her apartment to put him under cold water.

He was rushed to hospital by paramedics in a serious condition with burns to large parts of his tiny body and has since undergone two surgeries on his injuries.

“This horrific event should have never happened. Hopefully one day justice will be served,” Luka’s update continued.

NSW Police released CCTV footage of the perpetrator, who has yet to be caught to face justice.

One week on from the heart-wrenching attack, Luka’s family said the nature of the event meant they were facing an “extremely long journey ahead”.

As the family faces medical expenses for Luka, along with other costs, including “ongoing mental health needs”, the generous donations from the community allowed a weight to be lifted off their shoulders.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday to share an update, Luka’s mum revealed her baby boy may need skin grafts considering the extent of his injuries inflicted on his sensitive skin.

"Unfortunately it looks like the burns under Luka's neck and chest will scar and potentially need skin grafts," she said, with a photo of her son wrapped in bandages.

"I've really struggled to cope with what's happening to Luka, the cries, pain, any slight issue I am instantly triggered and brought back to the traumatic moment. Constant flash backs. Fear. Panic attacks," she said in a separate Instagram post.

"I feel like a helpless mother right now who can not support her son how she wants to. Having my partner take over and calm me when I need reassurance has been everything and more. I love you. I love my boys more than anything in this world."
