This document discusses structuring technical and political outputs for a successful Global Stocktake (GST) process under the UNFCCC. It identifies key recipients of messages from the GST, including parties to the UNFCCC as negotiators and implementers, as well as non-party stakeholders. It argues the GST outcomes should take a solutions-oriented approach across mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, and finance. Specifically, it suggests clear signals, highlighting high impact opportunities, and providing technical resources. Finally, it discusses how the GST could help reinvigorate the UN climate regime by strengthening its norm-setting and catalytic roles in climate action.

Re-invigorating the UN climate regime 18 ➢ Strengthening the UN Climate regime's norm-setting function ➢ Strengthening the UN climate regime’s catalytic role in the wider landscape of climate action (IOs, IFIs and ICIs ) ➢ The GST could pave the way inter alia by: ➢ Identifying and recognizing relevant needs and potentials ➢ Highlighting the catalytic role of the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement ➢ Inviting the UNFCCC secretariat, COP Presidencies and the Marrakech Partnership with the High-Level Champions to advance related action ➢ Important action can be taken by the UNFCCC Secretariat, the COP Presidency and others on the basis of existing mandates
