Super Bowl sack prop odds are annually posted before the Big Game, and while we wait to find out who will square off in Super Bowl 59, we'll look at the many markets available last year using the NFL odds from our best Super Bowl betting sites.

The defensive props among the Super Bowl odds expanded during the buildup to the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.

Most of our best NFL betting sites annually hop aboard in some capacity while getting creative with their Super Bowl player props and other Super Bowl prop bet odds. Bettors usually get plenty of selection beyond just the standard "to record a sack" market offered throughout the regular season.

Let's examine the Super Bowl sacks odds and what you can typically expect from the market before the championship game every year. Our Super Bowl predictions are projecting some familiar names in the marquee contest.

Super Bowl sacks props: To record a sack

This is the most popular market related to sacks, and there is often a lot of variance between our best sports betting apps.

That applies even to the way the offerings are presented. For example, FanDuel and bet365 listed this market as "to record a sack" before Super Bowl 58, while DraftKings' offering was significantly more enticing with an Over/Under on 0.25 sacks. That means players can cash the Over if they record half a sack.

(Super Bowl sack prop odds from our best sportsbooks as of Feb. 11 | 🔥 = best odds | ❄️ = worst odds)

San Francisco's Nick Bosa was trading at +106 via FanDuel to record a sack and -110 at bet365. However, you could have played Bosa Over 0.25 sacks at an also appealing -105 via DraftKings.

Therefore, DraftKings was the favored choice for wagering on the Super Bowl sacks market. Watch for the "yes/no" versus Over/Under offerings prior to future Super Bowls and shop accordingly.

Super Bowl sacks props: To record the most sacks

This is a simple market, similar to any other group-betting wager. Select the player you think will record the most sacks in the Super Bowl, and if you're correct, you win.

What are Super Bowl sacks?

What's a sack? In straightforward terms, it's a tackle made on a quarterback behind the line of scrimmage while the quarterback still has the ball.

Sacks can happen when the quarterback is standing in the pocket or when they're on the run. A player isn't credited with a sack if they tackle a quarterback who's considered to be trying to rush forward. In that situation, the quarterback gets negative rushing yards but doesn't get a sack counted against them.

(Little-known fact: Before they were coined "sacks" in the 1960s, they were referred to by the NFL stat office as "dumps". Do with that info what you will.)

It isn't the first category people peruse when taking a look at the final Super Bowl box score, but there's plenty of valuable stuff in the sacks column if you're looking to do a little homework prior to making your wagers.

Here are a few interesting trends to pull from this list:

  • The team that wins the sack battle is 36-15 straight up in Super Bowl history. There have been seven instances when the teams have finished tied in sacks.
  • Super Bowl-winning teams have averaged 3.19 sacks per game as of 2023, while the losing team averages just 1.89 sacks.
  • Not surprisingly, teams that fail to record a sack in the Super Bowl are just 5-11 straight up.

How to read Super Bowl prop odds

Reading Super Bowl sack prop odds is straightforward. Odds are usually presented in a format like +500 or -200. Positive odds (e.g., +500) show how much profit you’d make on a $100 bet.

For example, a $100 bet at +500 odds would win you $500, plus your original $100 stake, totaling $600. Negative odds (e.g., -200) indicate how much you need to bet to win $100. So, a $200 bet at -200 odds would win you $100, plus your $200 stake, totaling $300.

These odds also reflect the probability of a particular Super Bowl sack outcome. Lower odds (e.g., +300) suggest a higher likelihood, while higher odds (e.g., +2000) indicate a lower probability. Sportsbooks adjust these odds based on injuries, stats, news, and betting patterns.

If Chris Jones gets +500 odds and Nick Bosa receives +1000 odds to record a sack, Jones is considered more likely to record a sack. If you bet $100 on Jones, and he notches a sack, you’d get $600 back ($500 profit + $100 stake).
