For 20 years, New York City kids have been discovering the joy of bike racing, through our unique, cost-free, barrier-free program at Kissena Velodrome in Queens.
The Star Track Youth Cycling Program
Star Track is a free, urban youth outreach program created to teach New York City area kids the fundamentals of track cycling at Kissena Velodrome in Queens. Founded in 2004, Star Track has helped thousands of children — many from under-resourced areas of the city — discover the joys and benefits of bicycle racing. Our goal is to empower and engage children, enhance their physical and social development and give them a sense of pride and accomplishment through regular athletic activity. Star Track provides the opportunity to join a competitive cycling team with elite riders from across the country, and Star Track racers have earned more than 40 National Championship jerseys while setting several national records. Star Track has been honored as a USA Cycling Jr. Club of the Year and has been repeatedly designated a USA Cycling Center of Excellence. Our program is funded entirely by sponsors and private contributions, and thanks to this generous support, Star Track is fee-free for New York City children aged 8-16.
The Star Track UCI Pro Team
In 2022, Star Track took the huge step of creating the first new UCI pro track trade team in over a decade. Made up of some of the brightest stars in North American track cycling, the team competes at UCI events in the USA and internationally. Racers gain the opportunity to compete on the world stage without the need to qualify for national team status. In its inaugural season, Star Track was proud to have racers representing both the USA and Canada at the UCI World Track Cycling Championships and participating in the UCI Track Champions League. Star Track UCI has two athletes representing their home countries at the 2024 Olympics in Paris: Grant Koontz, representing the United States of America, and Maggie Coles-Lyster, representing Canada.
