Post Malone is a fantastic performer, and proved it with a charming acoustic set on NPR’s latest “Tiny Desk Concert.”

The Grammy-nominated rapper and singer kicked off the four-song performance with a gentle, Americana-style take on his biggest hit, “Sunflower.” Posty strummed an acoustic guitar alongside a band that included a piano, strings and backup vocalists, drawing lengthy applause from the small crowd at NPR’s office.

“My name is Austin Richard Post,” he humbly said afterwards, introducing himself by the name his parents gave him when he was born in Syracuse in 1995. “Thank you guys for coming and listening to the music today. And thank you NPR for having me.”

He joked about being nervous and apologized for a strained voice, blaming it on his lengthy tour in support of his new album, “Austin.” But Malone still managed to sound great on acoustic renditions of “I Fall Apart” and “Circles,” though he claimed he messed up a chord on the latter because he was playing “a Van Halen solo in my mind.”

Malone finished the set with a clap-along version of “Enough is Enough,” featured on the latest edition of the Syracuse Playlist, which highlights new music from artists with local ties. Malone lived in the Central New York area until he was 10, when his family moved to Texas, and his family still owns a home in Baldwinsville.
