Utica, N.Y. -- Six people -- 17 to 19 years old -- were arrested Wednesday in connection to shots being fired and a vehicle being stolen, leading officers on a foot chase, police said.
On June 29, officers responded to the area of Broadway Street — between Columbia Street and Court Street — regarding a shots fired investigation, according to a news release Thursday from Utica police.
When officers arrived, they found a large group of people and learned that an argument led a male to fire multiple shots at other people, police said. Six spent shell casings were also found on scene, they said.
Officers identified a suspect after interviewing witnesses and watching surveillance video, police said.
On July 10, investigators were parked near the intersection of Oneida Street and Pleasant Street when they noticed the suspect and another person, wanted on a warrant, exit a vehicle, police said.
Officers said the suspect and wanted person noticed the investigators and fled on foot. Four other individuals, also in the car, got out and ran, they said.
The vehicle they fled from was stolen on June 27 from Clinton Place in Utica, police said.
Officers chased the car and were able to stop them a short distance away, police said.
The shooting suspect and wanted person fled north on Oneida Street and ran into a residence in the 1500 block, police said. Officers followed them into the house where they were arrested, they said.
The six were taken to the Utica Police Department and charged with the following:

- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a firearm
- First-degree reckless endangerment
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
- 17-year-old juvenile: (Oneida County Family Court Warrant)
- Obstruction of governmental administration
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
