East Syracuse, N.Y. — A car plowed into a house after a driver had a medical emergency Friday, police said.

An 87-year-old man lost control while driving a blue Chevrolet Blazer southbound on Kinne Street in East Syracuse, said Lt. Jerry Pace, a spokesperson for the DeWitt police.

The man had a medical emergency, Pace said. The car went off the road, hit a pole and then hit the garage of a house on the 900 block of Kinne Street, he said. The distance between the pole and the house hit is about 305 feet.

A split pole was on the street and wood splinters and pieces of a car were on the ground near it. The house’s mailbox was on the ground.

The man was taken to the hospital, Pace said. The passenger in the car, a 60-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital for an arm injury, he said.

No one inside the house was injured. At least one person was home at the time of the crash and called 911.

Kinne Street between Almont Drive and Kirkville Road is closed while National Grid assesses damage, he said.
