Kodai Senga, armed with signature ‘ghost fork’ pitch, to make 2nd rehab start for Syracuse Mets

Syracuse, N.Y. — New York Mets All-Star pitcher Kodai Senga is scheduled to make a second rehab start for the Syracuse Mets on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium, the team said Friday.

Senga, who throws a distinct, split-finger-like pitch dubbed the ‘ghost fork’, is continuing to rehab a capsule strain in his right shoulder.

He threw 52 pitches and allowed two hits over two and two-thirds scoreless innings with three strikeouts and two walks in his prior rehab appearance with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday night.

Sunday’s game against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders is set for 1:05 p.m.

Senga, a native of Japan, started the 2024 season on New York’s injured list. He began a throwing program over the last few weeks and made one rehab start for High-A Brooklyn last week, striking out six batters in two and two-thirds scoreless innings.

Senga was named to the National League All-Star team last season as a rookie for the Mets. He started 29 games and went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 166 and one-third innings pitched. He became the fifth rookie in franchise history to be named to an All-Star team. He also finished seventh in NL Cy Young Award voting.

Tickets for Sunday’s game and all Syracuse Mets home games are on sale at the Onondaga Coach Ticket Office at NBT Bank Stadium during regular hours (M-F, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), over the phone (315-474-7833) or at syracusemets.com.

The Mets will also run a fundraiser during Sunday’s game to support the families of Michael Jensen and Michael Hoosock, the two police officers killed in a shooting back in April, as part of its First Responders’ Day promotion.

The Mets are holding a ticket fundraiser where $5 from every ticket sold using this ticket link will go to the “Fund the First” GoFundMe campaign.
