Baldwinsville, N.Y. — A pedestrian bridge being taken to Buffalo by boat arrived in Baldwinsville this evening.

At 6 a.m. the boat left Sylvan Beach and entered Oneida Lake. It reached Brewerton at Lock 23 at around 9:45 a.m.

The tug-and-barge system delivering the bridge arrived at Lock 24 in Baldwinsville at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.

People gathered on a bridge overlooking the water to see the bridge. A man on the barge held up a Buffalo Bills flag.

The barge will be in Baldwinsville overnight. Crews will return to take the bridge for its next portion of the journey around 8:30 Thursday morning. The second half of the bridge will also arrive around 8:30 a.m.

The lock is right in the center of the village. It will be the easiest access point for viewing and the closest place for people from Syracuse to see the bridge, according to the list of spots.

Carver Companies is delivering the bridge to Buffalo’s Ralph Wilson Park. The company is posting time of arrival updates to its Facebook and Instagram pages.

The 266-foot bridge was originally built in Italy, crossed the ocean and up the Hudson River to the Erie Canal. When it is installed this fall, it will be a new entryway for pedestrians into Ralph Wilson Park across I-190 from Fourth Street.

The 266-foot pedestrian bridge has spent the last year being built by international firm Cimolai at a facility in Italy, an hour north of Venice.
