Sandals Emerald Bay

Exuma, Bahamas

A tropical honeymoon island destination favourite - it is no surprise that couples return here to share memories and a hammock for two. The adults-only, all-inclusive resort sits on a mile of sugar-white sand made to showcase glorious sunsets. A variety of packages ensure your every whim is catered for.

Location

8 / 10

The hotel is located a short taxi ride from the airport (around 15 minutes' drive). It's not the most scenic journey, but that makes the arrival at the hotel even more special. A sweeping drive lined with tropical gardens leads towards a colonial-style beachfront hotel.

Style and Character

7 / 10

Sandals isn't a boutique experience but it knows how to please and returning guests genuinely have a real affection for the place. The colonial resort is designed for honeymooners and couples; private poolside cabanas, swim-up pool bars and karaoke competitions at the Drunken Duck compete for romantic memories.

Service and Facilities

8 / 10

Make time to indulge in Sandals signature couples beachside massage, it's glorious. Conversation is not compulsory when the ocean is lulling you to sleep, however much you love the other half. The spa houses its own outside pool area, a nice addition for sun-worshippers relaxing pre treatment. It's an idea to make friends with the concierge team if you don't have butler service, as reservations are recommended for à la carte dining and some activities. The ocean views from the award-winning golf course are seriously impressive.

Rooms

7 / 10

The standard rooms all feature a balcony or terrace with views of the gardens or ocean, perfect for pulling up the blinds and having tea on the terrace before a short stroll to breakfast. The rooms are spacious and kept cool with fans and air conditining, but are rather lacking in romance. They do however have safes, ironing boards, toiletries and an extremely generous minibar complete with full-sized bottle of sparkling and regular wine, and spirits. An enormous television pipes in US channels if needed.

Food and Drink

7 / 10

There are 11 dining options across the resort, ranging from barefoot dining at the Jerk Shack to show dining at Kimonos Oriental à la carte restaurant. Guests are encouraged to whoop for food here and I felt the chef was more the focus rather than the menu. This is an opportunity to eat wood-fired pizza for breakfast if that's your thing. Sandals offers a really wide variety of premium drinks; expect your bartender to mix you anything you fancy, a pleasurable surprise at an all inclusive.
