Well, if you're looking for a cheap and affordable way to banish the smelly odours coming from your machine for good, then you're in luck...because it turns out there's a simple way to do so for just £2.

One woman who was struggling with that very problem was at the end of her tether after trying but failing to find several solutions to keep her machine smelling fresh.

In desperate need of help, she took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks page on Facebook and asked: "Help! My washing machine stinks. I've tried, the clean cycle, zoflora, white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda. Help!"

And luckily, she wasn't short of answers, with many suggesting the same bargain buy to help solve the issue - soda crystals.

"Soda crystals on a hot wash once a month," advised one.

A second penned: "I had this from using pods, I did a bicarbonate of soda crystals boil wash and switched back to powder and the horrid smell has gone - it was driving my crazy as our clothes were smelling awful."

A third commented: "Put soda crystals in the drum and run it on a hot wash."

Meanwhile, a fourth who had tried and tested the method noted: "Soda crystals do the trick on mine."

Soda crystals can be bought for as little as £2 from the likes of Sainsbury's and can not only help to remove limescale and detergent buildup, but will also aid in deodorising the popular kitchen appliance.

And it's not the first time homeowners have been sharing cheap ways to get rid of the stomach-churning odours...as a cleaning whizz previously shared a quick and easy way to prevent the smell of damp - and it’ll only set you back £1.

The savvy woman (@littlelodonflat) took to TikTok and wrote: “Here’s the easiest way to make sure your washing machine never gets that yucky, damp smell.”

She then revealed that she simply puts an interior dehumidifier inside her washing machine after every wash.

And according to her, it's helped to prevent the smell of dampness every single time.

Showing off the results, she penned: “I mean, the amount of water in here is quite concerning.

“I just got one of those £1 dehumidifier boxes from Tesco, and you just pop it in the machine whenever you’re not using it.

“Keep the floor open post wash too!”
