There are a variety of ways to try and keep mould at bay, using bleach, white vinegar and even specialised cleaning products, but it always seems to come back.

Thankfully, there's a way to stop it growing in the first place and it's all thanks to this plant.

A Peace Lily plant can prevent mould from growing in the first place, according to a cleaning expert, and you can buy it from B&Q for as little as £6.

Thanks to their purifying properties that absorb mould spores, these plants make a great addition to your bathroom or kitchen.

Not only that, but Peace Lily's hate direct sunlight and prefer shaded areas, so it'll thrive in the bathroom.

The cleaning expert, Kerry Hale from Mira Showers, told the Express: "Purifying plants can be effective in lowering the humidity in the air, helping break down existing mould and preventing more from developing.

"English Ivy, Peace Lily, Boston Fern are some nice choices, and Tillandsia can be great too if you have a bright window."

While peace Lilies are great for preventing mould, they can be toxic to ingest so make sure they are out of reach from young children or pets.

Other plants that help reduce mould are English Ivy, which removes airborne mould form humid spaces and Boston Fern, which thrives in dark damp areas like the bathroom,

Also, Reed Palms can keep humidity at bay by absorbing moisture through their leaves.

The cleaning expert also revealed some other easy ways to keep mould at bay in your bathroom.

She recommended opening your window after a shower to allow excess moisture to disperse naturally.

If your bathroom lacks a window, a dehumidifier or ventilation fan will also help to stop condensation settling onto the walls and ceilings.

Once you're out of the shower, wipe around your shower to also help remove any excess condensation.
