A DENNY’S restaurant has permanently closed, ending 45 years of business.

Bosses at the fast-food establishment in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania, left a note on the door informing them about the shutdown.

It has prompted diners to speculate about what could replace the now-shuttered restaurant.

It’s not known when the Denny’s outlet closed but local media reported the doors slammed shut last week.

A note, shared by Levittown Now, says: “Dear guest. Thank you for your patronage.

“This location has permanently closed.”

Denny’s fans have been encouraged to go to the chain’s outlet in Essington, Pennsylvania.

The closure comes just months after CFO Robert Verostek revealed 57 locations closed in 2023.

It marked a cut of 29 stores from the chain’s portfolio.

Chiefs revealed that one of the reasons behind the shutdowns was linked to rising costs.

Bosses warned up to 20 restaurants could close throughout 2024, per Forbes.

And, execs said it now takes around $1.2million for a Denny’s store to be profitable across the year.

The closure of the Pennsylvania location has left some fans devastated.

“Always sad to see another place that has been around for years and years close,” one diner posted on Facebook.

“Was there all the time as a teenager in the 90s,” another chimed.

“I was just there a few weeks ago,” a third fan reacted.

Restaurant closures in 2024

BOSSES at major dining chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The U.S. Sun has compiled a list of the chain's affected.

  • Cracker Barrel: Stores in Medford, Oregon, Columbia, South Carolina, and Sacramento, California, have closed.
  • Mod Pizza: Bosses dramatically shuttered 27 shops in April, including some in the state of California.
  • Frisch's Big Boy: Restaurant chiefs confirmed the closure of a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky in April.
  • Outback Steakhouse: The chain will shutter 41 'underperforming' locations this year.
  • Two Bucks: Four restaurants in Ohio closed in April.
  • Chili's: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has shut permanently as well as one in Irvine, California.
  • Friendly's: Bosses confirmed an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island will close.
  • Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed at the end of March, followed by four in Ohio in June and 15 in Indiana.
  • Denny's: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
  • Carl's Jr.: The first Boise, Idaho location has closed.
  • In-N-Out: An Oakland location closed earlier in the year due to crime in the area.
  • Cheesecake Factory: The chain is set to shutter a location in Memphis, Tennessee in July.
  • Applebee's: Announced the closure of between 25 and 35 locations this year.
  • Taco John's: Shuttered a restaurant in Minnesota and put the building up for sale in May.
  • Rubio's Coastal Grill: Has announced the closure of 48 locations in California after filing for bankruptcy.
  • Burger King: Shuttered a location in California in June after 30 years.

Others admitted they were not surprised to hear the restaurant had closed but some rushed to speculate what could replace it.

One has called for a Waffle House to open while a critic said they preferred iHop.

The closure comes just weeks after a Denny’s restaurant in Worcester, Massachusetts, shuttered.

Two diners in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, closed in March in a move that disappointed loyal fans.

In May, The U.S. Sun reported that a Denny’s location in Lubbock, Texas, closed its doors for good.

OTHER RESTAURANT CLOSURES

Denny’s chiefs were forced to close a store in Oakland, California, due to the threat crime persisted.

Bosses at In-N-Out also shuttered a restaurant in the city due to lawlessness.

Chiefs at a slew of restaurants have been forced to take the decision to shutter outlets due to financial struggles.

Execs at Bloomin Brands closed 41 stores across its restaurant portfolio earlier this year.

Among the chains impacted were the likes of Bonefish Grill and Outback Steakhouse.

Mod Pizza bosses have shuttered more than two dozen restaurants this year and the chain is fighting for its future.

Reports emerged that the pizza chain could enter bankruptcy.

At least four Cracker Barrel restaurants closed this year but bosses have crafted plans that could see the chain undergo a huge transformation.
