Both muscle cars made by the manufacturer are biting the dust at the close of the 2023 model year Dodge is making strides toward producing much cleaner cars on its assembly line.

Dodge will end its production of gas cars in December 2023, according to The Detroit News.

The well-known carmaker will be releasing an all-electric Dodge muscle car in 2024.

The first-generation Dodge Charger was produced in 1966, according to Dodge Garage.

More on discontinuations

Not long after, the Dodge Challenger made its debut in the fall of 1969 as a 1970 model, per parent company Stellantis.

Dodge's Challenger remained largely the same since its 2008 debut but the carmaker has tinkered with its look over its time on the production line, improving its interior and lightly updating its styling.

Devastated fans of the Dodge Charger and Challenger went to Twitter, an online platform now known as X, to share their feelings about the discontinuation of the vehicles.

"[Dodge] will be out of business a few years after this disaster," someone said in reply to a tweet about the 'last call' muscle cars.

"The world is going sad," another person expressed in a tweet.

"I'm happy with there being a few electric cars around but every car being electric is so sad."

In reply, a user said: "The world isn’t remotely ready for an all electric traffic. The infrastructure is not there at all. Just imagine you try to get enough power to a parking lot for a multilevel building for example."

An auto influencer even started a conversation among car enthusiasts.

The user asked: "The Dodge Challenger and Charger will be discontinued next year Dodge is shifting its focus to electric vehicles Is this the end of the muscle car?"

"Yes please," someone responded.

"Car people absolutely ruined what it meant to own one of those."

On the other hand, in utter shock, an individual replied to the question presented in the tweet: "Stop this is my dream car."
