Who is Liz Truss?
Mary Elizabeth Truss, known by her middle name Liz, was born on July 26, 1975, in Leeds.
She became the Conservative MP for South West Norfolk in 2010, and became the Minister for Women and Equalities in September 2019,.
Truss served as the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs from 2021 until 2022.
Truss was born to left-wing parents and is the eldest of four siblings.

During her education, Truss studied philosophy, politics and economics at Merton College, Oxford.
She launched a career as an economist and accountant before being elected as a councillor in Greenwich in 2006.
Truss describes herself "disruptor-in-chief" and someone who is "not afraid to speak her mind".
She also refers to herself as a "prolific tweeter" and is among the most followed government ministers on social media with 313.1k followers on Twitter and 53.3k on Instagram.

Liz married accountant Hugh O' Leary in 2000 and they have two daughters together.

When did Liz Truss become Prime Minister?
On Monday, September 5, 2022, Truss became the UK's third female PM after winning the Conservative leadership contest.
She was voted in be party members after Boris Johnson resigned.
She ran against fellow rival Rishi Sunak and won with 57 per cent of the vote.
However, she announced she would be resigning from the position after just 44 days on Thursday, October 20, 2022.
Delivering a speech outside 10 Downing Street, she said: "I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability.
"Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills. Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent.
"I was elected by the Conservative Party with a mandate to change this.
"I recognise though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.
"I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party."
She added: "This morning I met the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady.
"We've agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.
"This will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country's economic stability and national security.
"I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen."

Truss is a hardline Brexiteer, she voted to leave the EU in the 2016 referendum.
As Foreign Secretary, she helped lay the groundwork for terminating participation in the Northern Ireland Protocol via legislation.
