Connor McDavid and Matthew Tkachuk to star in new Amazon Prime series in NHL’s version of Drive to Survive

Another NHL-centric docuseries was announced last week

TWO of the NHL's biggest stars - Connor McDavid and Matthew Tkachuk - will appear in a new Prime Video series.

The Amazon-owned streaming platform will pick up the NHL docuseries which is coming from Box to Box Films, who produced the massively popular Drive to Survive Netflix series.

The NHL-focused series will be six episodes long and debut on Prime Video in October.

It will feature in-depth interviews with 20 star players after the 2023-24 season's All-Star break, according to NHL chief content officer Steve Mayer.

That list will include Edmonton Oilers' McDavid and Florida Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk - two players who are playing against each other in the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals.

The other players include Oilers' Leon Draisaitl, Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby, Toronto Maple Leafs players Auston Matthews and William Nylander, Boston Bruins' David Pastrnak, and Chicago Blackhawks' Connor Bedard.

Vancouver Canucks' Quinn Hughes, Vegas Golden Knights' Jack Eichel, Bruins' Jeremy Swayman, Nashville Predators' Filip Forsberg, New York Rangers' Jacob Trouba, and Colorado Avalanche's Gabriel Landeskog will also star on the show.

The series will also show how the players work on-and-off the ice.

It's been reported that the camera crews will have footage of this year's Stanley Cup Final.

Box to Box helped Formula One's rise in popularity with their Drive to Survive series on the sport.

They also made projects Full Swing on golf and Break Point about tennis.

Netflix has released six 10-episode seasons of the Drive to Survive series.

Prime Video has exclusive NHL rights in Canada and this series will accompany that.

The series will also be available in the U.S. and globally.

The NHL has been in the docuseries business before.

They began with HBO's 24/7: Road to the Winter Classic in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

And Amazon's All or Nothing series featured the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021 season.

It was also revealed on Thursday that Crave, a streaming service in Canada, will produce a docuseries starring the Montreal Canadiens.

The eight-episode series will be called The Rebuild: Inside the Montreal Canadiens and will be available to stream on Crave later this year in both English and French.

The Amazon Prime NHL docuseries currently does not have a name.
