  • Boulter* 3-4 Maria

The British No1 missed a forehand return to hand Maria 15-0, before Boulter finds a winner off that same wing for 15-15.

Boulter then plays a pair of excellent points to move to 15-40, bring up two break opportunities.

And she takes the first, planting an inside out forehand beyond the helpless Maria. More like it!

  • Djokovic* 6-1 6-2 1-2 Kopriva

A thumping ace - 'avvvv it - moves Kopriva to 40-15.

But he follows that up with a forehand that hits the net post. Oops.

However, the world No123 gets through the game.

  • Boulter 2-4 Maria*

Katie Boulter is starting to get a hold of Tatjana Maria's awkward style, at least on her own serve.

She sets up game point with a huge backhand winner, only to double fault for 40-15.

Another error makes it 40-30, before a netted Boulter forehand from close range brings Maria to deuce.

Maria then missed a forehand wide to bring up a fourth game point for Boulter, before the British No1 hits a winner to make it 4-2.

  • Djokovic 6-1 6-2 1-1 Kopriva*

A pair of holds to kick off the third set, the second sealed by a forehand that booms long from the Czech.

Djokovic then gesticulates to his box - probably his physio team or coach rather than Ronnie - about something, it's not immediately clear what.

This is must-win for Kopriva, remember.

  • Boulter* 1-4 Maria

The No32 seed Boulter is really struggling to deal with Maria's unorthodox style, from having to dig out the German's relentless slice to botching a series of high balls.

Maria completes a comfortable hold for 4-1.

  • Boulter 1-3 Maria*

The British No1 pumps her first as she gets to 15-0, before following suit at 30-0.

A timely ace takes her to 40-0, before a double fault makes it 40-15.

Boulter lands a big first serve down the tee and is on the board, 3-1.

  • Boulter* 0-3 Maria

Wow. This is not the start the British No1 would have envisaged.

She is finding Maria's wicked slice off both sides really tricky to cope with.

Boulter finishes the game by thwacking an overhead into Row Z.

    Work to be done.

  • Game and second set, Djokovic - Djokovic 6-1 6-2 Kopriva*

A Sampras-style air smash will make for some cracking photos shortly...

It also moves Djokovic to 30-0 before he just gets caught out being a little too casual at the net and allowing Kopriva to chase it down.

Normal service resumes on the next point, though, with a strong backhand volley into the open court.

Two set points... double fault! Whoops.

Then a backhand return goes long and that's the second set in the bag.

Two down, one to go for Novak...

  • Maria breaks - Boulter 0-2 Maria*

Oh dear, not the start the British No1 would have wanted.

The No32 seed plants a backhand wide to be broken to love by her wily German opponent.

  • Djokovic breaks - Djokovic* 6-1 5-2 Kopriva

Djokovic knows he should get this done and dusted very straightforwardly.

But a simple miss at deuce sees him react by slapping his thigh a couple of times... then flash an epic cross-court backhand winner. Sublime.

Then on break point, Kopriva nets and that's the double break.

  • Djokovic 6-1 4-2 Kopriva*

A smart serve and volley then a routine service winner wrap up the latest love hold.

Jack Draper should be warming up...

  • Djokovic* 6-1 3-2 Kopriva

What more can Kopriva do? Djokovic is timing his returns wonderfully.

A strong attacking point from the Czech followed by a forehand into the net from Djokovic get it to 30-30, where the Serb mishits a backhand on the stretch.

An ace out wide seals the hold.

  • Djokovic 6-1 3-1 Kopriva*

A kick second serve does the trick at 30-0 as Kopriva can only but his backhand return into the net.

    Djokovic in cruise control here.

  • Djokovic breaks - Djokovic* 6-1 2-1 Kopriva

Djokovic works up another break point.

But a very uncharacteristic unforced error on the backhand side dumps into the net.

Kopriva goes long with a rally ball to set up yet another break point and this time, at the end of a good rally, the Czech cannot cope any more, unable to keep it in play.

A roar of approval from Djokovic - he knows that he can race through this quickly.

  • Djokovic 6-1 1-1 Kopriva*

Surprise, surprise, it's another easy hold for Djokovic.

Although moment of the game goes to Kopriva, who chases down a drop shot and flicks the ball back up the line - prompting a tap of applause on Djokovic's racquet.

An easy forehand winner ticks off the game.

  • Djokovic* 6-1 0-1 Kopriva

Kopriva is desperate to get a hold to start the second set - and if he is going to get it, he must work hard for it.

He saves a break point but eventually comes through it.

How long before he is broken in the second set...?

  • Game and first set, Djokovic - Djokovic 6-1 Kopriva*

Djokovic is looking very comfortable out here.

Another routine hold and that is the first set wrapped up inside 34 minutes.

He will be delighted with this.

If Djokovic is fit, he will take some stopping this fortnight as he looks to match Roger Federer's record haul of eight singles.

He's fired up like a rocket... speaking of which, Ronnie O'Sullivan is in Novak's box!

  • Djokovic* 5-1 Kopriva

Djokovic sends an inch-perfect return at 0-30 on to Kopriva's shoelaces to bring up three break points.

He doesn't need all three, taking the first with a fantastic backhand return up the line that his opponent can only scramble into the net.

  • Djokovic 4-1 Kopriva*

I was about to say Djokovic has barely worked up a sweat under the Centre Court roof.

But after racing through another love hold, he gets to his chair, rips off his polo and towels his torso down before digging out a fresh top.

  • Djokovic breaks - Djokovic* 3-1 Kopriva

Djokovic looks sharp - and is showing no ill-effects of that knee injury.

He comes in and produces a gorgeous backhand slice volley, cutting it beautifully and giving Kopriva no chance.

But the Czech wrestles advantage of the game before trying to let fly on the forehand - pushing it wide at 40-30.

At deuce, he hit the net with his first serve but was also called for a foot fault.

Djokovic just beginning to manoeuver his opponent around the court and a sumptuous backhand winner up the line - trademark.

That sets up a third break point but again Djokovic cannot seal the break.

On the sixth break point, Djokovic slips at the back of the court - but the slip may have put his opponent off as he messes up a drop shot into the net.

That's the break after a very, very long game.

  • Djokovic 2-1 Kopriva*

    Ooof. Czech that out.

Kopriva tees off with a gem of a backhand, crushing it up the line for a clean winner on the opening point of the game.

But Djokovic - in the knee sleeve - takes the next four points, sealing the game with another big serve.

On a side note, the umbrellas are back up and play is suspended once again on the outside courts.

That means Katie Boulter, about to go on to No3 Court, must wait a bit longer...

  • Djokovic* 1-1 Kopriva

And that is a tummy-settler for Kopriva.

The Czech gets a comfortable hold.

    Just what the doctor ordered.

  • Djokovic 1-0 Kopriva*

Perfect start for the seven-time champion, who has raced back from that meniscus surgery to line up on the start line at Wimbledon.

He bangs down an ace to kick things off and reels off an easy love hold.

Remember, this is what Djokovic has been through in the last few weeks...

  • BREAKING: Defending champion out!

Marketa Vondrousova has become the first defending women's champion in 30 years to lose in round of her title defence.

The Czech star, 25, opened play on Centre Court on day two, as is customary for the women's champ.

She never appeared comfortable, however, and has fallen 6-4 6-2 to 21-year-old Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

The last defending women's champion to lose in round one in SW19 was Steffi Graf, who fell to Lori McNeill all the way back in 1994.

  • Still Murr to come?

Andy Murray may not be playing in the singles, but he has entered the doubles with older brother.

They have been paired against Rinky Hijikata and John Peers of Australia in the first round.

Murray took to the practice courts earlier on to test out his back.
