  • Mainoo's Euro 2024 call

Kobbie Mainoo says England are ready to “etch our name into history” by winning the Euros in Berlin on Sunday.

The Manchester United midfielder became his nation’s youngest player ever to play in a semi-final of a major tournament in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over the Dutch.

Mainoo put in a breathtaking performance despite his tender age of just 19 years and 82 days.

But he and his team-mates will not be satisfied until they have beaten in-form Spain at the Olympiastadion, ending 58 years of hurt.

One hundred per cent. That’s the only reason we’re here.

We're not here just to get to the final and call it quits. We're here to win and etch our name into history.

  • Shaw praises Watkins

LUKE SHAW praised hero-of-the-hour Ollie Watkins for not losing his focus.

Striker Watkins, 28, came off the bench to belt home a 90th-minute winner against the Dutch on Wednesday, taking England to their first major final overseas.

The Aston Villa man revealed afterwards he had been getting frustrated at his lack of game-time.

Prior to the Netherlands semi, the only Euros action he had seen was 20 minutes off the bench against Denmark in the second group game.

I’m so, so happy for Ollie.

I said in my press conference the other day that the people who have not played many minutes, you never know when your chance will come, and you have to be ready.

That was exactly why I said it, because Ollie hasn't played too much, had an opportunity to come on and took it.

  • Xavi Simons reacts

Xavi Simons says the future is bright, the future is Oranje - despite semi-final heartbreak to England.

Talented Simons, 21, belted the Netherlands into an early lead in Wednesday’s last-four clash with the Three Lions.

But Harry Kane’s penalty levelled things up before supersub Ollie Watkins fired home a brilliant, 90th-minute winner.

It was a bitter pill for the Dutch to swallow, but Paris Saint-Germain man Simons sees the character-building experience as the start of something special for his nation.

It's tough, this defeat. I'm really disappointed, I think the team are as well.

But this is the start of a journey that's going to be really bright. I'm proud of the team.

For most of the game we were compact, waiting for them to make a mistake.

We had chances to finish them [off], but at the end we were a little bit tired.
