On February 9, 2023, Durant was traded from the Nets to the Phoenix Suns. Along with him, was player, T.J. Warren.
In exchange, the Suns sent over Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks, and additional draft compensation to the Nets for the 13-time All-Star.
In a statement to ESPN, Nets general manager Sean Marks said: "After a thorough evaluation of the best path forward, we believe making this trade now positions the franchise for long-term success."
