The news was broken on X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly before the game.

James' absence is down to a left calf contusion, according to NBA TV.

As such, NBA fans will have to wait to see James, 38, take on one of the most promising young players in recent memory - 19-year-old Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

James should have recovered in time to face San Antonio on Friday, according to Sports Illustrated.

Teammate Anthony Davis, however, stole the show during the final, scoring 41 points while also racking up 20 rebounds.
