Anderlecht teen Yari Verschaeren suffers horror ankle injury as joint turns 90 degrees

ANDERLECHT teen Yari Verschaeren suffered a horror ankle injury as his joint turned a sickening 90 degrees.

The attacking midfielder was playing against Standard Liege when he collided with Dimitri Lavalee on the hour mark.

Verschaeren suffered a gruesome injury when his ankle snapped out under a challenge.

The 18-year-old is set to undergo scans with Anderlecht doctors, who have given a positive update by suggesting the player “only tore two ankle ligaments".

Verschaeren manager Frank Vercauteren added after the 1-1 draw: “Maybe not a fracture, but torn ligaments or something to the Achilles tendon.

“A scan will be taken, but we will lose Yari for weeks. ”

Verschaeren’s brother Matthias revealed the midfielder could return to action within four to six weeks.

He said: "Even before the repeat in slow motion, we knew it was serious.

“Yari is not a player who just stays put and we feared for months of rehabilitation.

“Fortunately we received hopeful news afterwards. Two of his three ligaments would be torn and then Yari can play football again after four to six weeks.

“My brother will take his rehabilitation very seriously and as his best friend I will support him in that.”
