OLE'S GLORY BOYS

Man Utd boss Solskjaer hails ‘exhilarating’ young stars after ‘best performance of the season’

MANAGER Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called his Manchester United young guns “exhilarating” after they beat Brighton 3-1.

Solskjaer hailed it as their best display this term just four days after they won 3-0 at Partizan Belgrade.

He said: “I don’t know how we didn’t score five, six or seven.

“It was our best performance of the season. It was exhilarating, entertaining and great to see the boys enjoying themselves.

“We started on the front foot, got confidence, then it was just a matter of how many we were going to get.

“Since the last international break we’ve had five wins, a draw and a defeat.

“We have seen loads of answers to what we are trying to do.

“If you can’t get confidence from a run like this I’m not sure when you can.

“In these last two games we have seen loads of attacking play. The intentions are there to go forward.

“I think quite a lot of the young fans who have come along will have been saying I want to be Daniel James, Anthony Martial, Brandon Williams or Marcus Rashford.”

The win moved United up to seventh in the table.

Solskjaer added: ‘The table does not really matter at the moment, we need to keep improving and keep winning games and see where it takes us.”

Brighton boss Graham Potter admitted: “They were the better team and deserved to win. We tried but did not play as well as we can. Credit to the opposition for stopping us.

“That was the deserved outcome. I don’t think we played well but Manchester United did.”

The only downside for United was the sight of Scott McTominay being carried off on a stretcher at the end after going over on his ankle.

He will have a scan today and will miss Scotland duty.

Solskjaer said: “He went over on his ankle and it was a painful one.

“I’ve had one like that and been out for eight weeks, then sometimes it’s been just two weeks.”
