Matt Travis dead aged 25: Independent wrestling star passes away unexpectedly as WWE and AEW stars pay tribute
THE wrestling world is in mourning after news emerged independent star Matt Travis has passed away.
The 25-year-old died on Saturday after a traffic accident.
The New Yorker wrestled for both House of Glory, CZW and Gamechanger Wrestling.
His trainer, Amazing Red, tweeted: “I just can't. I don't understand life sometimes. I'm gonna try and pull it together for you today. I just want to see you! Talk to you! I'm sorry. I love you Matty.”
WWE superstar Curtis Axel led the tributes to the late star.
He tweeted: “My thoughts are with The @HOGwrestling locker room, students, friends, & family. Very sad news.”
All Elite Wrestling tag team Santana and Ortiz dedicated their Full Gear match on Saturday night to Travis.
Santana tweeted: “Love you bro. Tonight is for you.”
A host of fans also paid their respects on Twitter with @arieslopez saying: “Sad to hear the news of matt travis he was a great guy in the ring saw him at @combatzone wish i could have seen him @HOGwrestling #rip #MBK #hog.”

Back in January, Travis spoke to Vice about how wrestling was his “lifeline”.
He said: “Wrestling is my lifeline. Every night I come home and hear how someone got shot… like, what if I’m next? But with wrestling I feel like, finally, I have a shot.”
