If you’ve ever fallen into a Hadid family K-hole, as I have many times, then you know that the stunning good looks of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid are — okay, at least partly — the result of really good genes. Their mother, Yolanda Hadid, is a blonde Dutch beauty who was signed to Ford Models in the ’80s before becoming the proud mother of three (don’t forget about Anwar!). On Thursday night at Paris Fashion Week, Hadid, 56, reminded the world who started it all by walking in the Off-White runway show along with her two daughters.
Set in a futuristic chop shop, the show opened with Bella wearing a huge black gown and a matching Arc’teryx jacket. Yolanda walked out wearing a blazer with graffiti on the front, a large black chain around her neck, pointy sunglasses, and earrings that looked like Ikea screwdrivers, her blonde hair slicked back. She looked not like a regular mom but, in fact, like a cool mom. Gigi, meanwhile, closed the show in an item that was half Arc’teryx raincoat, half wedding dress.
Off-White is a label beloved predominately by young men (and maybe some man-boys), so it’s possible designer Virgil Abloh and casting director Liz Goldson wanted to bring in a new demographic by tapping Yolanda and other Paris Fashion Week veterans like Mariacarla Boscono. Does mean that Yolanda is making a runway comeback? And what about Papa Mohamed Hadid?
