Naomi Watts is at work on her first book, and she says it’s not your typical celebrity memoir. On Tuesday, the actress announced that Dare I Say It is hitting shelves in January, and it’s all about menopause.

“This is a book about how my life turned upside down when I was told I was close to menopause at the age of 36! Right when I was ready to start a family,” the actress wrote on Instagram. Watts said the realization made her feel like her life and career were over. “As I struggled through shame and secrecy, I wished there was an open conversation. A handbook I could secretly turn the pages of. Sadly there were no real resources. Not even well-versed doctors.”

Dare I Say It is meant to help the isolation women may feel when going through menopause, Watts said. In 2022, she created Stripes Beauty, a line of supplements and other products that help women deal with issues resulting from hormonal changes, such as thinning hair and vaginal dryness. In June, the brand was acquired by L Catterton, a private-equity firm backed by LVMH.

Watts wrote on Instagram that she hopes her book will “give you a chance to feel empowered through the conversations I’ve had with doctors and experts and to feel a little less alone by hearing my story and convos with my girlfriends.”
