Having your dad and stepmom’s marriage become front-page news is not exactly what any college-bound 18-year-old wants. However, Violet Affleck has managed to make the most of it. Fresh off an appearance at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting, where she advocated against mask bans, Ben Affleck’s daughter made another statement on behalf of immunocompromised people.

While hanging out with Jennifer Lopez at the East Hampton Antiques & Design Show on Saturday, the eldest Affleck child wore a shirt that read “CURE LONG COVID.” The shirt is from a brand called Berlin Buyers Club, described on its website as “a small group of skilled creatives doing what we can under very constrained circumstances after COVID-19 made us chronically ill.”

While standing in front of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting last week, Affleck revealed that she had contracted a postviral condition in 2019. “I’m okay now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief,” she said. She went on to demand better protection against viral infections in all government facilities, including jails and detention centers.

This is not the first time Affleck has used the paparazzi’s obsession with her parents to bring attention to something she cares about. Back in May, she was photographed with her mother, Jennifer Garner, aiming Steven Thrasher’s The Viral Underclass perfectly toward the camera. The book is about disease and inequality, a cause that’s obviously close to Affleck’s heart.

Affleck seemed to know that hanging out with J.Lo at an antique show in the Hamptons would be a well-documented outing, and she dressed for the occasion. “A Low Vera,” but make it for a good cause. Kudos, Violet!
