Last week, Elle King spared no feelings in a podcast interview about her relationship (or lack thereof) with her father, the actor and now-prominent conservative Rob Schneider. Now, Schneider would apparently like to apologize to his daughter … via a chat with Tucker Carlson. Classy! On Wednesday, the 60-year-old sat down with the former Fox News pundit to make a public plea to King, an attempt to beg forgiveness for, as she puts it, putting her through “fat camp” and forgetting “every single birthday,” among other “toxic” behavior. “I want to just tell my daughter, Elle ― I love you and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed, and clearly I wasn’t,” Schneider said. “And I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely. I love you entirely.”

“I just want you to be well and happy with you and your beautiful baby, Lucky,” he continued. “I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I just want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.”

Sounds nice enough, but let’s revisit King’s initial complaints, shall we? While appearing on the Dumb Blonde podcast, the 35-year-old addressed her father’s consistent absence in her life. King said she’d often go four or five years without speaking to Schneider, minus the occasional set visit where, if she “ever messed up a shot, if I was talking, I would get in fucking trouble.” The singer also remembered how harsh Schneider had been regarding her weight and her general appearance: “I had already started getting tattooed, and it was like 108 degrees, so I had to wear sweaters because my dad was very anti-tattoos or any form of self-expression.” And, more recently, King has taken issue with Schneider’s worsening conservatism and stance on LGBTQ+ rights.

“I disagree with a lot of the things that he says,” she said. “You’re talking out of your ass and you’re talking shit about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights. And it’s like, get fucked.”

King has not yet commented on her father’s attempt at an apology, but she has never been one to withhold her opinions. In the meantime, let’s hope Schneider has read up on the definition of boundaries!
