Pictures and videos showed planes grounded on flooded runways, water pouring through the ceiling and airport workers wading through knee-high flood water.

The majority of flights were either delayed or cancelled sparking travel chaos across Europe.

As the island comes to grips with the aftermath of the storm, more bad weather is on the way.

According to the latest weather update for the Balearics, 20mm rain is expected to thunder down across central and southern Majorca from 2pm to 8pm today (Wednesday, June 12).

That means the island's airport will continue to be hampered by the torrential conditions, putting more flights to and from the UK at risk of being delayed or even cancelled.

The city of Palma, Majorca's capital, will also be affected, as will the party resort of Magaluf.

Yellow weather warnings are also in place for the island's interior and the neighbouring island of Ibiza.

The weather is expected to dry up late into the night, with no more rainfall currently forecast by AEMet, Spain's Meteorological Agency, for Thursday.

AIRPORT UNDERWATER

Footage uploaded to social media showed the impact of yesterday's deluge on Palma airport.

Flood water was so deep a worker was completely submerged after diving in.

Other clips also showed airport vehicles doing their best to navigate the flooded tarmac.

One video even captured a man standing on the side of his car to escape the water that had swamped the inside of the vehicle.

Several flights to and from the UK were either cancelled or delayed on Tuesday.

A number of other flights across Europe were also impacted.

Most were rerouted to other nearby airports in Spain.
