ENGLAND topped Group C despite their underwhelming 0-0 draw with Slovenia.
Southgate's side had already qualified before the match but could now face the Netherlands in the last 16.
England had a goal disallowed with Phil Foden well offside before Bukayo Saka scored but the Three Lions came chances difficult to come by.

70. In a game of next to no quality, that cross in was the worst of the lot.
It evades everyone and bounces once before going behind for a goal kick.

Both he and Kyle Walker make a mess of a long ball and Sporar splits them just inside the England half and takes a great touch to try and run through and Guehi brings him down.

Foden's outswinger is a delightful ball and Kane looks destined to head it home from a few yards out but the defender flicks it away for a corner.

We've been here again.
England are once again looking distinctly underwhelming at this tournament and struggling to break down a stubborn Slovenia side.
There was little invention in a disappointing first half where Jude Bellingham cut a frustrated figure out left and Harry Kane once again ineffective.
Conor Gallagher, in for Trent Alexander-Arnold, struggled so badly that he was hooked at half-time for Kobbie Mainoo.
England are already through, they really need a performance to inspire the fans, many of whom booed at the break.

56. Bellingham scoops a pass into the box which is headed away comfortably.
But interesting he's drifted more out to the left with Foden coming inside to the No10 position. By coincidence or design? We'll see shortly.
Mainoo is clattered 30 yards from goal on the England left and it's another dangerous free kick.

He smashes a ball into Bellingham's path inside the area. His touch lets him down and Bijol gets back to smash the ball off the midfielder and out for a goal kick.

53. Kane's switch of play finds Walker in ACRES of room at the back end of the box.
He tries to play it first time back into danger but shanks it over the bar. His teammates not happy and neither is he. He's better than that.

It's a Slovenia header away but only half away.
It loops to Foden 30 yards from goal who tries an ambitious volley which is pretty rubbish and bounces harmlessly wide.

50. Kane gets to the byline down the right and his cross is blocked for a corner again.
Better from England as they force a second corner in a matter of minutes.

He crosses for Kane who looks to head across goal and Slovenia manage to head it clear again.

Eventually Saka and Mainoo link well down the right and the latter picks out Bellingham inside the box but his first touch lets him down and Slovenia get it behind for a corner.

Just 10 England players take to the field though as Southgate DOES go to his bench.
Conor Gallagher is the man sacrificed at the break having been handed that start today.
Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo replaces him.

Harry Kane's touch map shows his style hasn't been adapted here, dropping deep - sometimes inside his own half - before linking the play with the defenders.
No real penetration again with only the one or two moments discussed that England can look back on.
Having already wrapped up qualification, can Southgate look to his bench?

The big moment of the half came when England did put three quick passes together.
Rice picked Foden out down the left in behind the defenders and he squared it for Saka to tap in from close range.
The offside flag denied the opening goal but it was a rare moment of good passing.

England's players bit back at criticism through the week and vowed we'd see a different England.
But it's been much of the same so far with some loose passes in possession and very little happening in front of goal.
Slovenia sitting in a good shape and barring one or two moments, England have struggled to penetrate.
Foden has been the standout so far in a Three Lions jersey and Bukayo Saka has shown flashes at points too.
Not particularly inspiring but there's 45 minutes to go!

Bellingham's lay off sums his game up thus far as he can't manage the four yard pass. He hasn't looked right at all tonight.

It's a deep one towards Rice who fouls his man and it's a free kick Slovenia.

Trippier gets the ball on his right foot down the England left. His cross is a beauty, curling towards goal with England 2v1 at the back post.
Gallagher somehow makes zero contact with the header and Kane sliding in behind him misses it by an inch.
The ball curls and bounces narrowly wide on its own too. A real chance.
